Position Summary
Marathon Petroleum Corporation's El Paso Refinery currently has a vacancy for a Project Engineer to develop and lead projects in the Engineering Department's Small / Mid-Cap Project Group.
The Project Engineer will be responsible for supporting projects from early conceptual engineering through project completion. The Project Engineer will report to the Advanced Project Manager and act as the single point of contact controlling planning and execution of the project's activities and resources to ensure that the established cost, time, and quality goals are met. The Project Engineer will work with the stakeholders and a team that includes in-house and contract employees to define overall project scope, develop a cost estimate, schedule, and complete final project construction. Projects will include both Capital and Expense work and will have a wide range in size and complexity. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, team-oriented individual. The position requires the ability to drive project teams that are multi-disciplined including members from Tech Service, Operations, Product Controls, Supply Chain and Accounting. The Project Engineer will work with and coordinate multiple engineering contractors in the completion of engineering from conceptual through commissioning and start-up. The Project Engineer will work closely with the Local Marathon Construction Group, communicating regularly on work package and material delivery expectations, estimate validation, RFI responses during planning and construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
Apply project management and engineering skills and knowledge in all phases of projects from conception to closeout.
Manage multiple projects and assignments in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner.
Be self-directed and motivated.
Interact with project team members and key refinery stakeholders to ensure that project scope is clearly defined and meets the requirements of the end users.
Develop decision support packages (DSPs) for assigned projects, which include a project's objective, scope, schedule, benefits / justification, options, and costs.
Present DSPs to management to obtain approval and funding.
Manage and provide direction to engineering contractors.
Initiate and lead management of change (MOC) reviews for applicable projects.
Review design drawings, construction packages, and specifications and coordinate input from stakeholders.
Participate in technical reviews with project engineers, engineering firms and equipment suppliers.
Ensure assigned projects comply with all applicable Marathon and other refining industry specifications and standards.
Collaborate with Project Controls group for project scheduling, estimating, cost management and forecasting.
Coordinate with Procurement in development of contracting plan including engineering services and equipment sourcing.
Maintain accurate and current project documentation.
Provide documentation and support to Operations and Maintenance department so they can develop start-up manuals, operating and maintenance procedures, and equipment training.
Support construction and commissioning of assigned projects through field walks, responding to requests for information (RFIs), and approving installations before turning over to operations.
Education and Experience
Minimum Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required. (Education must be obtained / completed prior to start date)
A minimum of 3 years' experience in refining or petrochemical industries is required. A minimum of 5+ years of experience in refining or petrochemical industries is preferred.
Project management experience in a refining or petrochemical industries.
Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Travel up to 50% may be required depending on projects assigned.
A Driver's License is required.
