Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and experienced Utility Locator to join our team. This role involves significant travel across various project sites throughout California and occasionally nationwide, as needed. The successful candidate will play a critical role in identifying, locating, and marking underground utilities to ensure the safety and success of our projects in engineering, environmental services, and surveying.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain both electromagnetic (EM) and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) subsurface utility locating equipment according to manufacturer and industry standards.
- Conduct thorough site investigations to locate and mark underground utilities, including sanitary and storm drain networks, electrical, gas / fuel, water, and telecommunications.
- Utilize specialized equipment and tools to accurately identify subsurface utility lines, features, structures, etc.
- Collaborate closely with project teams to ensure utility information is integrated into project plans.
- Maintain detailed records and reports of utility locations and conditions.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and team members to facilitate project progress.
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations while on-site.
- Travel extensively to various project sites across the country, providing support wherever needed.
- Collect survey field data to document findings and support mapping efforts, as needed.
Required Skills
Experience using EM induction and GPR equipment for subsurface utility investigations.High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in utility locating preferred.Proven experience as a Utility Locator or in a similar role.Strong knowledge of utility locating techniques and equipment.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Willingness and ability to travel extensively, sometimes on short notice.Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.Required Experience
Strong listening, writing, and verbal communication skills.Knowledge of utility networks and geophysical locating equipment (pipe & line locator).Ability to operate AutoCAD Civil 3D for production activities and familiarity with GIS concepts.Ability to manage multiple tasks, support project coordination, and interact with other services.Proficiency with Microsoft Office.Preferred Experience
5 years of utility locating experience.Experience coordinating activities with office personnel, including surveying technicians and engineering staff.Understanding of basic survey field procedures and the operation of GNSS survey equipment.Compensation Range Minimum
USD $30.00 / Hr.
Compensation Range Maximum
USD $45.00 / Hr.
