Facilities Operations / Engineering Supervisor
The University of Iowa Facilities Management is seeking a highly motivated person to work as a Supervisor, Fire and Life Safety. Under general supervision, provides leadership and oversight to assigned personnel within Fire and Life Safety. Serves as a working supervisor, performing the duties of direct reports as needed, including during emergencies. Oversees daily operations by establishing work schedules, assigning and reassigning tasks. Maintains accurate and organized records related to timekeeping, work assignments to support operational efficiency and accountability. Evaluates employee performance to uphold high standards of service, safety, and workmanship. Actively participates in all stages of the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring recommendations, employee and labor relations, performance management, career development, and terminations. Provides onboarding, training, and orientation for new staff to ensure operational readiness and compliance with departmental standards. Serves in back-up supervisor capacity in absence of Associate Director.
This position is performed fully on campus. Duties to include :
Location : MSSB Shift : Monday-Friday, 7 : 00 AM- 3 : 30 PM. May be eligible for flexible schedule to be discussed during interview process. Due to the critical operational needs of the department, this position may be required to work overtime and participate in the Facilities Management Standby Program.
About Facilities Management : Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 500 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards for our downtown Iowa City campus and Oakdale campus in Coralville. FM staff coordinate campus master planning, manage design and construction, and maintain and clean the buildings and grounds.
