Purchasing Agent

The Purchasing Agent will maintain constant and clear communication with multiple internal departments, vendors and brokers to ensure the best product cost, quality and service at all times. The Purchasing Agent will report directly to the Purchasing Manager.

Major Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Review and analyze daily and weekly reports to monitor costs, quality, inventory turns, shrink and make adjustments as needed.
  • Issue purchase orders and reconcile PO confirmations daily.
  • Maintain accurate weekly commodity costs.
  • Create and maintain product items and vendor set-up files.
  • Source and recommend potential new or alternate items and product lines to the Sales team.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with vendors, distribution centers and internal departments through constant communication and collaboration.
  • Analyze current inventory, market conditions, availability and promotional impact to forecast order quantities.
  • Coordinate with Warehouse Operations and Inventory Control to maintain the proper product flow in a timely manner.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the purchasing manager.

Minimum Required Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 3 years of purchasing experience in the foodservice industry.
  • Understanding of perishable procurement, logistics, inventory management, marketing, accounting and financial management practices.
  • Ability to negotiate cost of goods, payment terms and other product allowances.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills; ability to take initiative and make fact-based decisions.
  • 10 keys by touch is highly preferred.
  • Ability to use G Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Slack and other assigned software applications.
  • Written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective business relationships both internally and externally.
  • Be a team player, work harmoniously and effectively with other departments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and management.
  • 1+ years of AS400 experience is preferred but not required.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Prolonged periods sitting at workstation.
  • Required to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keyboard.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Time Speaking and Listening : 80% - 100%.
  • Concentration : Constant.
  • Work Conditions :

  • Ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure, navigate tense situations and communicate professionally with persons of all backgrounds.
  • Work may be repetitious, stressful and with little time in between calls.
  • Will work in a cubicle in close proximity to other Purchasing Department staff.
  • Salary Range : $70,000 - $100,000 per year DOE

    Work schedule : Monday - Friday 7 : 30am - 4 : 30pm

    Location : On-site reporting, Brisbane, CA Eligible to work from home up to one (1) per week upon Manager's approval.

    Position : Full Time, Exempt
