Medical-Surgical Clinical Nurse Educator
Job Summary : The Medical-Surgical Clinical Nurse Educator is a key leader in advancing clinical excellence through structured, ongoing education and competency validation. This post-onboarding role supports medical-surgical nursing staff by applying the Structure-Process-Outcome (SPO) model to ensure high-quality, evidence-based, and regulatory-compliant care. The educator leads initiatives that align with organizational goals, regulatory standards, and quality improvement priorities, while fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
Job Description :
- Standardize educational content and delivery across all medical-surgical departments based on identified needs.
- Coordinate specialized education programs (e.g., chemotherapy certification) for targeted nursing populations.
- Facilitate physician-led and interdisciplinary education sessions.
- Maintain accurate documentation of educational activities, competency validations, and compliance audits
- Conduct annual educational needs assessments to guide curriculum planning and resource allocation.
- Lead and manage ongoing competency validation processes for clinical staff.
- Implement evidence-based educational strategies tailored to adult learners and unit-specific goals.
- Perform spot checks and audits to ensure adherence to clinical standards, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with nurse leaders to align education with performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.
- Mentor staff in the development and implementation of evidence-based practice (EBP) and quality improvement projects.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of educational interventions through measurable outcomes (e.g., clinical performance, patient safety metrics, staff engagement).
- Support regulatory readiness and survey preparedness through targeted education and action planning.
- Promote a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and professional growth.
- Expertise in adult learning theory, curriculum development, and clinical education.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to mentor and coach staff in EBP and quality improvement.
- Proficiency in educational technologies and clinical systems.
- Ability to analyze, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
Minimum Qualifications :
Degrees : Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; Master's Degree in Nursing or EducationExperience : 5 years of direct care nursing experienceLicenses & Certifications : Valid Missouri RN License, ACLS, BLSPreferred Qualifications :
Experience : 10 years of medical-surgical nursing experienceBoard certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., CMSRN) and / or nurse educator certification (e.g., CNE, NPD-BC) preferred or required within one year of hire.Work Environment & Physical Demands :
Extended standing / walking; ability to lift / move objects up to 100 lbs with assistance.Exposure to clinical environments, including infectious agents and hazardous materials.Requires rotation to evenings and nights on occasion.Must use appropriate PPE and adhere to safety protocols.Work Shift :
