Digital Records Specialist
The City of Wheat Ridge is seeking a detail-oriented and tech-savvy Digital Records Specialist to support the management, organization, release, and preservation of the City's digital and physical records. Responsibilities :
This civilian position supports law enforcement by managing and processing digital media such as body-worn camera footage, digital photos, and audio files. Responsibilities include redacting sensitive content in compliance with the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA), the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA), and other legal requirements. The role involves handling digital evidence, maintaining confidentiality, using specialized redaction and evidence management software, and preparing materials for court or legal discovery. Assistance provided to prosecutors and attorneys regarding examination of all records for discovery requirements. Must have solid, consistent attention to detail and time management qualities. Strong communication skills are essential for working with law enforcement, attorneys, and the public.
Job Qualifications : Minimum Qualifications
Education : High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in digital records management, criminal justice, or information technology preferred.
Experience : At least three (3) years of experience in an office, administrative, or records management setting. At least three (3) years of technical experience working with video and camera equipment, digital file handling, or related technology. Experience supporting or using digital redaction tools, evidence management systems, and records retention software.
Technical Skills : Familiarity with hardware / software troubleshooting, inventory systems, and database entry. Working knowledge of redaction tools, records management systems, and Colorado law enforcement databases such as CCIC / NCIC. Knowledge of Axon or other body worn camera software preferred.
Legal & Regulatory Knowledge : Understanding of applicable laws and regulations, including the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA) and the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA).
Licenses : Currently possess or be able to obtain an Operator Security Number (OSN) to access the Colorado Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Computer (NCIC) within 30 days of start date. Currently possess or be able to obtain Master Certification through the Association of Law Enforcement Records Technicians Supervisor and Managers (ALERT / SAM) within one year of start date.
Hours of Work, Location, and Work Environment : Full-time position, 40 hours a week, in an office setting with low noise, position is located at City Hall, 7500 W. 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. This will require mostly sitting or standing at a desk and many hours of computer screen time. Video and / or images viewed may be graphic or sensitive in nature.
