Position Summary & Responsibilities
Position Summary :
This position will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on legislative meetings as well as navigating the legislative process on behalf of the agency’s legislative and budget priorities. They will assist in compiling testimony on behalf of the agency, take lead on the review process and get testimony turned in on time. They will assist legislators with constituent issues and work within the agency to provide responses to inquiries from Legislative Research. They will also assist in providing legislative updates to the Governor’s Office and stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following :
Monitor and report on legislative committee meetings and serve as the liaison to the legislature on behalf of KDADS. Works to cultivate relationships with key officials, staff, policy makers and related governmental bodies and leaders.
Assist in compiling testimony on behalf of the agency and be responsible for timely review and submission. Maintains knowledge of how legislation impacts agency goals and policies. Requires consultation with agency leadership, researching issues, legislation and amendments, and being a resource for KDADS staff regarding interpretation of legislation.
Manage requests from the Office of Governor and the Kansas Legislature. This includes inquiries from Legislative Research, routine reporting to the Governor’s Office, and assistance with constituent issues.
Play a key role in coalition and partner outreach including grassroots cultivation in developing and recommending nonpartisan engagement strategies. Will provide routine legislative updates to stakeholder groups and represents KDADS at functions as requested.
Other duties as assigned.
Completes special projects and performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to ensuring the agency is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and / or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and / or acts of terrorism. Assists other employees in the work unit in accomplishing assignments as necessary.
