The Language Assessment Coordinator (LAC) assists the Multilingual Learners and World Language (ML / WL) Department and the Parent Information Center (PIC) to welcome assess and place multilingual so doing the LAC will guide families through the registration process and connect them to appropriate community resources in order to deliver Revere Public Schools high expectations including equal access to high levels of instruction achievement of academic proficiency for all students and closing opportunity gaps among all subgroups in our schools.
Reports to Director Multilingual Learners and World Language Programs
DUTIES include but are not limited to the following. Additions and modifications to these representative duties and responsibilities are under the purview of the Superintendent of Schools and the ML / WL Director.
Coordinate and manage the master student placement schedule in conjunction with the Director of the ML and WL Dept. and PIC staff.
Develop plans for student placement when necessary.
Manage student placements in consultation with others including PIC staff and the Special Education Department.
Liaise with schools to explain / support the assignment process and student needs.
Visit schools to follow up with students and build relationships with leadership.
Assess incoming students with official assessment tools including the WIDA Screener Pre-las IPT and / or native language assessments.
Explain test results and different EL programs to parents in order to assist with program placement decision.
Conduct SLIFE Pre-screener and interview with families and students
Oversee the maintenance of all paperwork for ELL student records / folders.
Support registrars at PIC to register non-English speaking parents when necessary.
Coordinate community-based supports and services for the bilingual families and ELPAC (English Learner Parent Advisory Council.)
Attend joint meetings with the Parent information Center staff.
Support the district as needed with written / verbal communication with multilingual families (translation / interpretation.)
Present / arrange with community groups to present topics of interest to families.
Support the Director of ML / WL Department in fulfilling any and all other departmental responsibilities as requested.
SCHEDULE AND COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT
This is a full time 40 hours per week 12-month position. Daily schedule is 7 : 30 a.m. to 4 : 00 p.m. (including ½ hour unpaid lunch.) This is a non-bargaining unit position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Current MA DESE licensure in ESL & SEI Endorsement preferred.
Experience assessing PK-12th grade English Language Learners with the WIDA Screener and other screening tools.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook Word and Excel and corresponding Google Suite programs.
Languages : Fluency in English and Spanish / Portuguese required (Arabic and / or additional languages a plus).
Familiarity with community resources in Revere and / or surrounding areas.
Outstanding interpersonal skills cultural sensitivity and respect for others with the ability to establish rapport with and relate to students caregivers and coworkers with respect compassion tact and understanding

Ability to effectively and confidently manage students.
