Director, Health Safety Security Environmental — Qualifications
Education :
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (Master’s preferred)
Experience : Minimum
10+ years of management experience
in logistics, maritime, manufacturing, or distribution
At least
5 years of progressive HSSE leadership with 5 years
at the Director level , with proven results in regulated, heavy industrial environments
Technical Expertise :
Strong working knowledge of
OSHA, EPA, USCG, and state / local regulations
Experience implementing
behavioral safety programs ,
environmental compliance systems , and
emergency response protocols
Leadership Skills :
Demonstrated ability to
influence, mentor, and engage teams
at all levels
Proven success embedding a
culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Skilled in
cross-functional collaboration
across Operations, HR, Labor Relations, and Business Strategy
Professional Skills :
Strategic thinker with
strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Exceptional
executive communication and presentation skills
Ability to manage
large, complex programs
and drive organizational change
Certifications :
CSP, CHMM, or equivalent professional designation preferred

Director, Health Safety Security Environmental — Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Succession :
Partner with the Vice President of HSSE to lead company-wide safety and environmental programs, ensuring smooth leadership transition and long-term continuity
Champion a culture of
safety excellence, compliance, and sustainability
across all terminal operations
Safety Management :
Lead injury prevention programs, incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning
Conduct and oversee
safety audits, inspections, and training programs
to maintain compliance and reduce workplace incidents
Ensure consistent integration of safe work practices into daily operational activities
Regulatory Compliance & Environmental Stewardship :
Oversee adherence to
OSHA ,
PCMSC , and
environmental regulations
(SWPPP, SPCC, AMP, TRU, hazardous waste, air quality)
Support environmental compliance reporting and drive
zero-emission strategies
including adoption of clean technologies and infrastructure upgrades
Security Oversight : Collaborate with the
Facility Security Officer
to manage the Facility Security Plan (FSP) and ensure compliance with
U.S. Coast Guard
requirements
Supervise performance of third-party security vendors and maintain secure operations throughout the terminal
Training & Development :
Develop and maintain a
master safety training calendar , ensuring compliance with required programs (e.g., CPRD, Hazard Awareness, EAP, Heat Illness, HazWoper)
Promote continuous learning, employee engagement, and shared accountability across all teams
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement :
Foster strong working relationships with leadership and functional departments to embed safety and environmental considerations in business decisions
Participate in
safety committees
and champion initiatives that drive innovation, efficiency, and employee well-being
