PAYROLL CLERK

Job Summary

Performs a variety of duties involving the research, evaluation and analysis of payroll and related records; applies district, federal state and county policies, rules and regulations to ensure correct payments and records; resolves discrepancies found in records of personnel assignments, salary payments, employee benefits, retirement and deductions. Responds to inquiries from individual employees concerning entitlements, deductions and other related matters.

The class of Payroll Clerk is distinguished from other clerk classes in the Accounting Occupational Series in that an incumbent performs detailed duties related to the processing of payroll data that require an extensive knowledge of both certificated and classified rules, procedures and collective bargaining contracts related to payroll and personnel assignment actions, as well as detailed federal, state and county regulations and procedures relating to payroll functions.

Experience

The Equivalent to two (2) years of recent full-time paid experience in clerical accounting work. Experience in payroll department and / or in a public agency is highly desired.

Special License of Language Skill

The ability to read, write and speak a language, in addition to English, such as Spanish, is desirable. Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and use of a private automobile, or alternative means of transportation, may be required in some positions.
