PCU Registered Nurse Job Details
Location : Wilmington, NC 28401
Unit : Cardiac Telemetry – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Employment Type : Travel Nursing Contract
Contract Duration : 13 weeks (option to extend up to 26 weeks)
Estimated Weekly Pay : $1700 - $1750
Shift : 12-hour nights (18 : 45 – 07 : 15), 36 hours per week
Start Date : November 24, 2025
Patient Ratios : 1 : 4 for surgical step down, 1 : 5-6 for lower acuity
Weekend Requirement : 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks (flexible)
Unit Orientation : 24 hours
Scrubs : Navy
Registered Nurse Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of recent experience in cardiac care (PCU, Telemetry, Stepdown, DOU, IMC)
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or compact state (must be in hand at start)
BLS & ACLS certifications required
NIHSS certification required
Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Epic charting experience preferred
Required skills : Cardiac Telemetry, Sheath Removal, Dysrhythmia interpretation / management, Post MI, Pre / Post Cardiac Cath, Cardiac drip management (including titration), Chest tubes (Emerson / Pleuravac), External CPAP / BIPAP, Nasal Cannula, Non-invasive airway management
Preferred : Arterial line management, Wound Care / Wound Vac, Charge nurse experience
PCU Nurse Responsibilities
Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiac and vascular conditions (atrial fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, PVD, PAD, vasculitis, carotid stenosis, and more)
Monitor and manage patients post cardiac and thoracic surgeries (CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, Watchman, VATS, vascular surgeries, pacemaker placements, etc.)
Operate specialized clinical equipment : Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, chest tubes, epicardial pacing wires, cardiac drips
Document and communicate patient care using Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR systems
Float to other hospital units as needed (not first to float; follows unit rotation)
Participate in Storm Team / Hurricane Team during catastrophic events as required
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams : physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, and more
Maintain compliance with fatigue policy (no more than 5 days in a row or 60 hours / week)
