Duties : Inspect electrical installations during construction or remodeling to enforce code and ordinances establishing and maintaining minimum standards for residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations and applications. Review electrical blueprints for conformity to adopted codes. Review electrical plans and materials list to interpret specifications and methods of installation. Approve connections and / or reconnections for electrical service. Verify loads, demand factors, and number of circuits to ensure that circuits are capable of operating without overloads. Inspect electric wiring, fixtures, and equipment in commercial / residential construction / remodeling. Issue notices to repair, remove, or refrain from using items found to be unsafe. Maintain daily records of inspections performed, action taken, and corrections recommended and secured. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and / or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy.
Qualifications : Associate's degree or equivalent of five years' experience as an Electrical Inspector or certified as a Commercial Electrical Plans Examiner with a recognized model code organization or a reasonable combination thereof. Possess a Texas Department of Health Code Enforcement Officer License and an Electrical Inspector Certification from a recognized model code organization or obtain within 1 year from date of hire. Possess a Valid Texas driver's license. PREFERRED : Bilingual experience in a construction / inspections environment. Model code organization certified Multiple Discipline Inspector (MDI).
