About the College
Founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges, the College of Arts & Sciences is comprised of 15 departments, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The College has more than 10,000 students enrolled representing more than a quarter of the overall Texas Tech University student population while maintaining a 22 : 1 student-to-faculty ratio.
About the Department / School / Area
The Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management offers a B.S. in Kinesiology and an M.S. in Kinesiology for over 1,400 undergraduate and 40 graduate students, respectively. The department enrolls over 400 undergraduate students in the B.S. in Sport Management and over 50 master's degree students in the M.S. in Sport Management. It also offers a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology. Its building includes six classrooms, a student computer lab, and faculty offices.
Major / Essential Functions
At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Typical primary responsibilities will be to teach courses in the public health minor and kinesiology major, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program. Examples of courses that may be taught by this position include (but are not limited to) : HLTH 2302 Environmental Health and Awareness, HLTH 4313 Mental Health, HLTH 4344 Managing Stress, KIN 3305 Exercise Physiology, KIN 3306 Applied Exercise Physiology, and KIN 4305 Advanced Strength and Conditioning. Note : the courses in the public health minor (i.e., all courses with the HLTH prefix) are all taught online. These courses will remain online for the foreseeable future. Courses in the kinesiology major (i.e., all courses with the KIN prefix) are traditionally taught in person (face-to-face).
