Job Summary

Under general direction and supervision of up-line personnel, is responsible to operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment of a complex nature in connection with general maintenance, development, and construction projects including, but not limited to highway construction and snow and ice removal.

This position is a 3rd shift 10 : 30 pm to 7 : 00 am Sunday through Thursday.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains equipment, appurtenances, and accessories of a complex or special nature such as, but not limited to, bulldozers, payloaders, asphalt pavers, power sweepers, truck and trailer units, compressors, pumps, and generators.
  • Operates sander / snowplow during winter operations; cleans snow and ice from streets.
  • Performs pre-trip inspections and operator level maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment; makes minor operational and maintenance repairs and services equipment.
  • Maintains record of assignments, hours of operation, materials and supplies received and delivered, and other pertinent information relative to the equipment operator.
  • When not engaged in Heavy Equipment Operator duties, operates light equipment (mowers, tractors, light trucks) or performs general manual labor as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent and at least four (4) years experience as an equipment operator and one (1) year experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State Driver’s License. Must also possess and maintain a valid State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with airbrake endorsement and a Hoisting Engineer’s License.
  • Ability to make operating adjustments, repairs, and perform general maintenance work on equipment.
  • Working knowledge of the mechanics of gasoline and diesel motors and automotive equipment; skill in the operation, maintenance, and servicing of automotive and hydraulic equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and frequently in absence of supervision.
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
  • The term “limited” means that the successful candidate will perform the job for an undetermined length of time. The position may or may not become permanent.
