Fundraising, Marketing, Financial Oversight, Facility and Personnel Management

Organizational Overview :

Since its founding as a Center for the Practice of Theatre, in 1991 Freehold has been devoted to making that practice radically accessible. Serving the full spectrum of our community, Freehold’s programs broaden engagement, serve diverse audiences, and encourage deep participation in the arts.

Role Responsibilities :

The Managing Director at Freehold is a key leadership role responsible for financial oversight, team management, fundraising, donor cultivation, business development, marketing, and facility operations. Working closely with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors, the Managing Director ensures the alignment of the budget with strategic goals, supervises staff, strategizes fundraising efforts, enhances Freehold’s brand image and network into the Greater Seattle Area, and pursues earned revenue through production rentals, new partnerships and corporate training opportunities. This role demands strong financial acumen, excellent management skills, and a strategic approach to expanding the organization’s reach and impact on the community.

  • Working with Artistic Director & Board Leadership to craft and approved an annual budget supporting Freehold goals,set by the strategic plan
  • Provide Oversight of payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Work with Operations & Finance Manager to best provide monthly financial statements to the board including cash flow projections and balance sheets

Administrative Management :

  • Operations & Finance Manager (Full Time)
  • Facilities Coordinator (Part Time)
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and regular check-ins to evaluate employee progress, set goals, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Address and resolve any performance issues or conflicts that arise, ensuring a productive and positive work environment.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with Freehold’s existing donors to ensure ongoing support and engagement.
  • Identify and explore new opportunities to reach prospective donors and expand the organization's donor base.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase contributed income through targeted fundraising efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Founding Artistic Partner, and Development & Communications Coordinator to create compelling donor communications and campaigns aligned with Freehold’s mission and strategic plan
  • Monitor fundraising progress and adapt strategies to achieve financial goals and sustain community support
  • Provide regular monthly updates on development / fundraising efforts to the board
  • Marketing and Communications :

  • Maintain Freehold’s brand image, with oversight from the Founding Artistic Partner to find new and effective ways to reach prospective students with an eye towards increasing Freehold’s identity on a national level
  • Oversee Freehold’s regular communications including but not limited to, Class Launch Emails, Quarterly Newsletters, Event Marketing, Program Marketing, Studio Related Emails, etc.
  • Oversee Freehold’s social media marketing, keeping it inline with brand image
  • Find new and effective ways to expand Freehold’s marketing reach and brand recognition
  • Business Development :

  • Evaluate and expand existing revenue streams, including space / production rentals and corporate training initiatives, ensuring alignment with the organization’s capacity and strategic goals.
  • Identify and develop new earned income opportunities
  • Facilities :

  • Oversee operations and maintenance of the physical spaces where Freehold resides, including the offices and the studios
  • Events :

  • Work closely with Board to produce annual Gala / Auction
  • Work with staff and faculty to produce annual Faculty Showcase
  • Work with Staff Quarterly Studio Open Houses and other Studio public offerings
  • Create new cultivation opportunities for fund and business development
  • Candidate Qualifications :

    Required Skills / Traits :

  • Intermediate understanding of Google Workspace
  • Ability to manage a small team effectively
  • Confident, practical, motivated, resourceful, and detail oriented
  • Ability to problem solve and multi-task
  • Familiarity with budgeting
  • Ideal Skills :

  • Familiarity with accrual accounting principals and Quickbooks Online Reporting, and cash flow projections
  • Familiarity with CRM functionality - Freehold uses CiviCRM Spark
  • Wordpress Website Maintenance
  • Strategic Planning experience
