Job Summary :
We are seeking a highly skilled System Security Engineer to support the design, implementation, and sustainment of secure DoD IT systems. This role blends system administration, cybersecurity auditing, and architecture responsibilities. The engineer will play a key role in ensuring compliance with DoD and Navy cybersecurity standards, supporting RMF efforts, and providing technical expertise for system hardening, vulnerability management, and secure architecture design.

Responsibilities :
Administer and secure Windows / Linux systems in compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements
Conduct security audits and assessments to ensure compliance with RMF, STIGs, and NIST 800-53 controls
Support the development and maintenance of System Security Plans (SSPs), POA&Ms, and other RMF documentation
Provide expertise in secure architecture, system hardening, and vulnerability remediation
Monitor, analyze, and resolve system security events, incidents, and findings
Coordinate with ISSOs, ISSMs, and system owners to address cybersecurity risks and implement mitigations
Use tools such as eMASS, ACAS, and HBSS for compliance reporting and vulnerability management
Support accreditation packages and system authorizations for DoD systems
Mentor junior staff and provide guidance on cybersecurity best practices and system security engineering
Basic Qualifications :
Active Secret clearance
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of experience in system administration and cybersecurity engineering
Hands-on experience with Windows / Linux administration, system hardening, and STIG application
Strong understanding of DoD RMF, NIST 800-53, and DISA STIGs
Experience with eMASS, ACAS, HBSS, or similar compliance and vulnerability tools
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications :
CISSP, Security+, or other DoD 8570 IAM / IASAE certification
Experience supporting Navy or DoD IT environments
Knowledge of cloud security within Azure or AWS DoD environments
Experience in developing secure architectures for enterprise or mission-critical systems
Familiarity with incident response and vulnerability management best practices
Prior experience contributing to or leading RMF accreditation packages
