Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Export Control Requirement : Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead the software team to build and deploy the Kuiper Point of Presence software to deliver broadband internet service
  • Work with the product and business teams to define requirements, drive roadmap to leverage Amazon’s AWS network resources, connect consumer and enterprise users to the public / private networks
  • 10+ years of experience leading large embedded, wireless, networking teams with deep technical understanding of end-end wireless networks
  • Wireless space experience is desirable
  • Work with peer teams and customers to design suitable software systems and interfaces with underlying hardware to fulfill the Kuiper networking goals.
  • Develop a strategic plan for the growth of the team, both from a software and integrated mission outcomes perspective.
  • Hire & Develop a diverse team of software engineers and managers.
  • Aid in the design of mission critical systems in Project Kuiper.
  • Collaborate with your fellow team members to integrate various system elements, both hardware and software.

A day in the life

This role is for a senior leader in the Kuiper Payload Software organization, responsible for driving the research & development, deployment and operation of the Kuiper Point of Presence software. You will own the roadmap and mission for Software and work with your customers to refine requirements, understand constraints, hire & grow your team and iteratively deliver value to our customers.

About the team

Within Project Kuiper, the Point of Presence team is responsible for connecting end users to the internet. The team works closely with the ground networking and AWS teams to design the network architecture, and with the payload and network software teams to deliver end to end service.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of engineering experience
  • 5+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience partnering with product and program management teams
  • Experience designing and developing large scale, high-traffic applications
  • Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
