Must-Have : Experience with IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens and administration. Handling precautions for chemotherapy, along with monitoring for side effects of medication.

Description :

This position involves providing nursing care in an oncology setting.

The unit has 19 private beds.

Nurse to patient ratios are based on unit census.

Ratios can vary from 1 : 4-5 on days to 1 : 5-6 on nights.

In specific cases, 1 : 1 staffing is provided for particular medications and therapies.

Common diagnoses include all types of cancer, primarily lymphoma, leukemia, hematology, and medical patients.

Experience with IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy is essential.

Responsibilities include hanging and monitoring chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens.

Nurses do not titrate drips unless directed by a physician.

Charge nurses are available 24 / 7.

Charge nurses may occasionally take on assignments as needed.

Patient care technicians are utilized on the unit.

When the unit is at capacity, there are three technicians during the day shift and two during the night shift.

Registered Nurses are not required to interpret telemetry strips as this is managed by telemetry technicians.

The unit utilizes a standard telemetry system, and Philips monitors are in use.

Shifts begin at either 0700 or 1900.

Scheduling is flexible, with a preference for self-scheduling, but requires approval from management.

Weekend shifts occur every other weekend, and holiday shifts are rotated as needed.

There are no on-call or standby requirements.

Traveling nurses may be subject to floating requirements within the facility.

The department utilizes a specific electronic medical record system for documentation.
