Job Description :

The Student Life Department Assistant is responsible for assisting the Director of Student Life, in general administrative duties. The assistant will be responsible for assisting in the implementation, planning and scheduling of events for students, student organizations, the College Community and community outreach. The incumbent will help create a warm and welcoming environment through greeting and assisting students and visitors at the front desk and keep the office running smoothly through performance of a variety of secretarial and administrative support activities.

Essential Duties :

Coordinate day to day needs of events in the Bateman Center for Student Life and Leadership.

Maintain and assist in creation of Office Forms necessary for management of club and organization.

Assists student organizations with event and organizations

Coordinates / prioritizes multiple tasks in a timely fashion.

Acts as a resource person for internal and external inquiries relating to the Office of Student Life. Directs students, college personnel and community members to appropriate resources / services when necessary.

Understands and regularly clarifies and explains office policies and procedures to students and employees.

Recognizes and creates opportunities for student volunteers, club members, and integration of Student Life.

Assists with the implementation and execution of club events and activities; Weeks of Welcome Activities, College trips, Induction Ceremonies, Leadership Awards and other various campus wide events as needed.

Assists in developing and maintaining on-line information and resources for Student Life and all student organizations including the RV Commons, RVConnect, and Office Forms used by Student Life.

Assists with the day-to-day operation of the Ray Bateman Center for Student Life and Leadership.

Assists in encouraging and maintaining enthusiasm, commitment and teamwork in Student Life.

Assist with the organization and daily functioning of Student Life.

Requirements :

1-2 years of related work experience in planning and program development in an academic setting.

Experience with computer systems, software applications and social media (i.e. Publisher, MS Word, Access, Excel, Graphics Software required).

High degree of reliability and flexibility, with the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and attendance at weekend programs as necessary.

Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of office management.

Ability to simultaneously work on a variety of projects including planning, organizing and prioritizing goals and projects to meet deadlines.

Ability to create and manage forms, reports, webpages, etc.

Ability to monitor and track the online reports and forms through the current RVCC Content Management System.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relations with student organizations, faculty and staff, and external vendors.

Preferred Qualifications :

Associate's degree, preferred.

3-5 years of related work experience in planning and program development in an academic setting.

Experience with PowerPoint and SharePoint a plus.
