Position : BH Paramedic
Position Summary : The Paramedic will be able to provide quality care to patients of all ages under the direction of the Medical Director in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Northwest Texas Healthcare System. The Paramedic reports to the charge nurse for shift assignments and direction of shift duties as assigned. The Paramedic will be responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients under the supervision of the Medical Director and Charge Nurse. Under the direction of a health care practitioner, the Paramedic provides patient care within a defined scope of practice that includes patient care / observation, specified treatments and procedures; provision of environmental and personal safety, and effective communication. The Paramedic will also be responsible to collect pertinent data within their certification scope of responsibilities and report these clinical, psychosocial, etc., findings to the RN or medical provider and charts appropriately. Works in collaboration with RNs and Medical Providers to provide patient care to adult medical and trauma patients utilizing advanced skills and judgment. Paramedics will be responsible for ECG interpretation, IV therapy, and initiation of approved protocol orders and guidelines of patients in the setting. Demonstrates Service Excellence at all times. Other duties as assigned.
Job Duties / Responsibilities :
Collaborates with RN on implementation of an age-appropriate plan of care through tasks delegated by the RN or physician based on the patient’s condition and the individual’s skills. Ability to implement protocols as outlined by the Medical Director to delivery timely and efficient care to Emergency Department customers. Maintains professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources, as needed. Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and employees. The concepts of the patient centered care delivery model will provide the foundation for all nursing care.

Qualifications
Education, Training, Experience and Licenses / Registrations Required :
High School Diploma or equivalent
Completion of an accredited school of paramedicine Texas certification as a paramedic
1 year experience in a hospital setting as a Paramedic, preferred
Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association within days of hire and maintain certification throughout employment
HWC within days of hire and maintain certification throughout employment
Physical and Sensory Requirements :
1. Ability to read and write in English
2. Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, and others
3. Ability to remain calm under stress
4. Ability to comprehend and follow instructions
5. Bending, lifting ( lbs. minimum), grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing, pulling, and squatting
6. Quantitative / mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard / metric measurements
7. Exposure to infectious organisms, agents, and toxic chemicals
