Career Opportunity

We are currently seeking candidates for a Joint Exercise Planner. This position provides expertise in operations, strategy, doctrine, and tactics while supporting and managing many aspects of the exercise life cycle process for the US Fleet Forces Command located in Norfolk, VA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Develops training scenarios, message scripts, mission threads, operations guidance, and threat environments that are realistic based upon analysis of the current situation for training is required.
  • Develops new requirements and scripts for role players that are operationally realistic.
  • Prepares after action reports for training and rehearsal exercises incorporating video, photography, recorded message and voice traffic, and the responses to exercise stimuli.
  • May serve as an Exercise Controller or Observer.
  • Supports exercise OPLAN, CONPLAN, and Supporting Plan staffing and development efforts for USFF, NAVNORTH / JFMCC, and CTF-80 efforts.
  • Assists in the development, coordination, preparation, and execution of participation in Joint and Service exercises.
  • Participates in exercise planning meetings involving significant USFF, NAVNORTH / JFMCC, or CTF-80 training objectives. Each Joint Exercise Life Cycle involves three or more specific events for five or six unique exercises.
  • Assists in the execution and control of individual exercises; develop, validate, monitor, and update exercise databases; validate and monitor unit or individual exercise participation, and develop lessons learned and after-action reports associated with each exercise.
  • Develops an overall exercise assessment program with a data collection plan unique to each exercise. This plan must capture potential actions which could inform Mission Essential Task (MET) assessment.
  • Manages the NORTHCOM Corrective Action Program (CAP) in support of NAVNORTH. Prepare staff briefings for participation in periodic NORTHCOM-hosted Secret Video Tele-Conferences with particular emphasis on maritime lessons learned.
  • Provides technical expertise in joint exercise planning and producing staff products in support.
  • Produces, manages and coordinates the development of Flag Officer level staff briefing books, correspondence, and presentations; and prepare staff inputs, briefs, papers, and / or other documentation as required.
  • Provides trip reports to USFF N357 and the COR in accordance with standard trip report format.

Travel

  • This position includes a low level of travel.
  • Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Abilities Required :

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent and associate degree required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree desired.
  • Must possess six years of relevant experience.
  • Must have expertise in Naval operations, strategy, doctrine, and tactics.
  • Must have experience in Joint and Naval Exercise planning and execution.
  • Qualifications

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS / SCI security clearance.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to frequently traverse stairs.
  • Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling
  • Reaching, handling, and using equipment, keyboards, and mobile devices
  • Lifting boxes (files and supplies) of up to 20 lbs
