Immerse yourself in Ford's center of innovation and growth, working alongside top engineering, design, and software talent to create groundbreaking EVs and contribute to key technologies like batteries, charging, and recycling. Thermal systems spans a diverse range of critical customer-facing attributes, hardware, and software domains. Our work keeps occupants comfortable, enables full vehicle powertrain capability, and empowers battery fast charging - in all weather conditions. We strive to balance heating / cooling performance, energy consumption, cost, reliability, NVH and packaging trade-offs through physics-driven, cross-functional engineering collaboration. We work closely with mechanical engineers, aerodynamicists, battery and powertrain experts, electrical engineers, embedded / controls engineers, and more through all phases of vehicle development.

The Role...

The student worker will contribute to the development and optimization of electric vehicle thermal management systems. This role primarily involves applying 1D simulation techniques using Python and supporting hands-on bench testing activities to analyze and enhance the thermal performance of the thermal management system.

Responsibilities

What you'll do...

• Develop, implement, and maintain 1D thermal models of electric vehicle thermal management systems using Python.
• Conduct simulations to analyze and optimize the thermal performance of HVAC, coolant, and heat pump systems.
• Support bench testing activities, including instrumentation setup, data acquisition, and analysis of experimental results.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate thermal management solutions into vehicle designs.
• Assist in documenting simulation methodologies, test procedures, and results.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to problem-solving efforts related to thermal performance.
