At Orleans Technical College (a program of JEVS Human Services), we are committed to helping students gain the hands-on skills and technical knowledge they need to succeed in today’s workforce. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Career Exploration of Building Trades Instructor to teach and mentor young adults and high school students in the fundamentals of the construction trades, including safety, math, carpentry, plumbing, and electricity.
Position Summary :
The Building Trades Instructor will deliver engaging, hands-on instruction and theory-based lessons that prepare students for entry-level careers in the building trades. This role combines classroom teaching, shop supervision, and individualized student support in a professional training environment.
Key Responsibilities :
Teach students in the fundamentals of the building trades, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
Supervise and evaluate students during hands-on lab and shop activities.
Assess student learning through written tests, practical demonstrations, and performance evaluations.
Prepare and update lesson plans, instructional materials, and course curricula.
Use a variety of instructional methods and media to engage learners throughout the class day.
Ensure consistent adherence to all safety, classroom, and school rules.
Maintain clean, organized classroom and shop environments.
Track student attendance, grades, and progress.
Order and maintain materials, tools, and supplies in a timely and accurate manner.
Collaborate with Student & Career Services to support student success and job placement.
Incorporate employer and Program Advisory Committee feedback into instructional improvements.
Participate in professional development to stay current in instructional methods and industry trends.
Assist in new instructor onboarding and training as needed.
Participate in graduation ceremonies and other school events.
Qualifications :
Relevant experience in the building trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical, general construction).
Previous teaching or training experience preferred, but not required.
Strong communication and classroom management skills.
Commitment to student development and hands-on learning.
Ability to maintain a safe, professional, and engaging learning environment.
Industry certifications a plus.

The base pay for this position is $35 / hour. Base pay is one part of the Total Compensation that JEVS Human Services provides to recognize employees for their work.
