Position Summary
As an experienced and detail-oriented Appraiser, you will have the opportunity to lead and mentor a small team of Appraisers and work with the leadership team to ensure consistency in the appraisal process. You will do site visits and appraisals in the field as well as respond to appeals, conduct quality control, cross train in other areas. The Pierce County Assessor-Treasurer's Office is responsible for the mass appraisal of real and personal property throughout Pierce County, which is the foundation for assessing, calculating, and collecting property taxes. Our mission is to deliver exceptional service to the community through equitable and efficient property valuation and the collection of property tax revenue supporting essential services across Pierce County.

Success comes from being able to work efficiently, make sound daily decisions, and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational skills, the ability to interact professionally with the public (including property owners, business owners, and managers), and the confidence to work independently are essential. You should also be comfortable navigating a variety of computer applications and modern productivity tools. We are also looking for someone who has exceptional customer service and de-escalation skills as well as someone who is aware of their surroundings to identify when things need to be corrected. The Assessor Treasurer's Office is dedicated to your success at becoming adept at appeals, physical inspections, new construction, and other specialized work. You will have additional training / educational opportunities through organizations, such as the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), the Department of Revenue (DOR), and the Washington State Association of County Assessors (WSACA). Your work will directly impact your community, and it offers a great foundation for future positions within the Assessor Treasurer's Office and Pierce County.
