Description :
Note : This is an in-house recruitment that is open only to City of Huntington Beach Recurrent Lifeguards who meet the minimum qualifications. Duties Summary : Under direction, assists in coordinating and supervising the activities of the Junior Lifeguard Program and performs the principle duties and responsibilities of a Recurrent Ocean Lifeguard I.

Minimum Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of : Principles and practices of modern lifesaving techniques, small boat safety, and operations of equipment and apparatus used; first aid practices and principles including highly specialized first aid techniques; principles and practices of educational techniques and procedures; basic departmental budgetary practices. Ability to : Swim in adverse weather and surf conditions for extended periods of time and to perform ocean rescues under said conditions; size up emergencies and adopt effective courses of action; coordinate, supervise and evaluate the activities of subordinate recurrent Junior Lifeguard personnel; instruct youth in the educational aspects of the Junior Lifeguard Program as directed. Education : Completion of two years of college or any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience : 1440 hours experience as an Recurrent Ocean Lifeguard I, II, or III, with a minimum of two seasons experience as a Junior Lifeguard Instructor I or II or equivalent (evaluated on a case by case basis). Licenses / Certifications Required : Social Security Card; valid California Driver's License; valid First Aid Instructor's Certification Card, valid CPR Instructor's Certification, Huntington Beach Lifeguard Training Certificate or equivalent.
Application & Selection Procedure :
The examination process will include : Oral Interview (100% weight, tentatively scheduled for December 9, 2025).

Minimum age : 21 by date of appointment Excellent Health Vision : 20 / 40 un-corrected SPECIAL CONDITIONS : Employees regularly assigned / required to drive a city or personal vehicle in the course and scope of work shall be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program due to the performance of field duties that may require operation of a City vehicle. Public Employee Disaster Service Worker : In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, all Huntington Beach city employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or a disaster.
