Assignment Overview :

A Hospital in Everette, MA is seeking a skilled Milieu Counselor for an inpatient psychiatric unit. This is a Local Contract Assignment —candidates must reside within 50 miles of the facility address.

  • Contract Duration : 13 Weeks (12 / 02 / 2025 - 03 / 07 / 2026)
  • Shift Type : 8-hour Nights (NO block scheduling)
  • Guaranteed Hours (Weekly) : 40 hours
  • Schedule Requirements : Must work every other major holiday.
  • Overtime : Weekly OT after 40 hours.
  • Vaccine Requirement : Flu vaccine is required during the season.

    • Role Summary :

    The Milieu Counselor is a vital member of the multidisciplinary team on the inpatient psychiatric unit, responsible for maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and structured environment for patients in crisis. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), this role attends to the daily individual needs of patients and supports the overall treatment plan.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Safety and Observation : Perform frequent and accurate safety checks on patients and the environment to ensure a crisis-free setting.
  • Patient Support : Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, laundry, toileting, and room organization.
  • Group Facilitation : Lead or co-lead therapeutic groups as assigned, engaging patients in constructive activities.
  • Vitals and Monitoring : Accurately chart and document patient vital signs (B / P, TPR) and weights.
  • Intake / Output : Accurately measure and document patient intake and output to monitor nutritional and hydration needs.
  • Communication : Immediately notify the Registered Nurse of any changes in patient condition, behavior, or vital signs.
  • One-on-One Interaction : Conduct scheduled one-on-one meetings with patients to provide support and therapeutic engagement.
  • General Support : Complete other tasks as assigned by the Charge RN to support unit operations.

    • Required Qualifications & Submission Requirements :

  • Experience : 1-2 years of experience in Milieu Counseling or an equivalent human services / behavioral health role. Travel experience is preferred, but the facility is willing to accept first-time travelers.
  • Education : High School Diploma or GED is required. A B.A., B.S., or M.A. in a relevant field (or equivalent years of human service experience) is preferred.
  • Physical : Must successfully complete a job-specific physical test prior to hire.
  • Certifications : Current AHA BLS certification is required.
  • References : Must provide 2 recent professional references (Charge RN, Manager, or Supervisor) matching the specialty.
  • Geographic Requirement : Drivers license must match demographics showing residence within 50 miles of the facility.
