Job Title : Learning Programs Associate

Department : Learning

Reports To : Manager for Family & Youth Initiatives

Supervisory Responsibility : None

FLSA Status : non-exempt (full-time)

Pay Rate : $15.14 / hour.

Work schedule : Monday-Friday 8 : 30 AM-4 : 30 PM, with flexibility to work occasional Thursday evenings and weekend days. 40 hours per week.

Job Summary : The Learning Programs Associate develops and leads learning experiences for audiences of all ages, applying CMA’s key learning frameworks and approaches, in collaboration with Learning and Engagement team members. This includes leading early childhood programs, including co-teaching at the Wonder School laboratory preschool. Other focus programs this position works with include Open Studio and Studio Think Workshops, which primarily engage elementary-aged students; current and emerging teen and pre-teen programs that foster creativity, agency, wellness, and engagement with contemporary art; community programs including and occasionally creativity workshops for corporate or teacher workshops (in coordination with the Teacher & Schools team.)

This position coordinates, facilitates, documents, and prepares materials and learning opportunities for learning programs as assigned, and supervises program contingents and interns. This position’s primary focus is studio-based programming, but the successful candidate will be trained in gallery learning at CMA and expected to develop (with colleagues in Learning, Engagement, and Curatorial) exhibition- and collection-related activities, and facilitate gallery learning occasionally.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Assist in planning, logistics, staffing, and facilitation, of learning programs for children and youth including (but not limited to) Open Studio, Community Days, Studio Thinking Workshops, Homeschool Workshops, teen workshops.
  • Lead Summer Art Workshops, including training and orientation of support staff and instructors,scheduling, and day-of supervision.
  • Co-teach in CMA’s Wonder School and other early childhood programming, under the direction of the Manager of Teacher & Schools and in collaboration with partners (Note : This includes maintaining compliancy with mandatory trainings and policies; Learning department will support the successful candidate through this process and cover training costs.)
  • Support programs for teens and youth, though planning, logistics, and facilitation.
  • Document programs including tracking participation, collecting data, photographing, and evaluating in support for program improvement and funder reporting.
  • Work with Marketing to promote programs, including by writing copy for print materials.
  • Coordinate with other L&E staff to provide oversight and feedback to interns and contingent staff members and identify opportunities for on-going training and coaching.
  • Support idea generation and project planning for educational programming that support CMA’s strategic plan and core frameworks of Thinking Like an Artist and Cultivating Creative & Civic Capacities.
  • Collaborate with Learning and Engagement team members to develop and execute programs that actively engage the public with themes of CMA exhibitions and target collections.
  • Maintain organization and inventory of Studio, Innovation Lab, and associated storage.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Undergraduate degree in studio art, art education or art history. At least 1 year of experience in museum or nonprofit education preferred.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with staff and non-museum professionals (such as teachers) on collaborative projects.
  • Experience working with and / or teaching children.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with visitors of all ages in a friendly, professional and enthusiastic manner.
  • Willingness to be flexible with work schedule (which will include weekends and evenings) in order to accommodate programs.
  • The ability to think creatively while also keeping organized and thinking strategically about programming.
  • Ability to supervise interns and contingent staff effectively.
  • Uniform Requirements : This position does require maintaining a professional personal appearance.

    Physical Demands : Must be able to read, comprehend, and communicate via email, phone, and in-person. Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
