Position Summary

While under the direct supervision of the Principal, the Speech Language Pathologist will support and promote Heritage Academy

Schools instructional program in a learning environment that motivates and guides students to develop and fulfill their academic

potential. The Speech Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and

intellectual development of students.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, structured environment focused on academic excellence.
  • Create a learning environment that is engaging and conducive to effective instruction; maintain standards of student

behavior.

  • Plan and provide high-quality, direct individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech / language goals
  • defined in Individual Education Plans.

  • Provide screening protocol to identify children with possible speech / language deficits
  • Administer informal diagnostic techniques and formal standardized norm referenced testing instruments to diagnose and
  • identify students with articulation deficits, voice, fluency, and or language disorders

  • Mentor teachers in observing, describing, and referring students with suspected speech and / or language deficits.
  • Serve as a resource to staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication.
  • Schedule, prepare for, and conduct IEP meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and current records for students receiving or being referred for speech and language services as required
  • by law and school policy.

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis to
  • discuss student progress and interpret the speech language program.

  • Provide goals, objectives, and progress of each student to parents quarterly in addition to individual requests.
  • Complete treatment notes and progress reports in a timely manner according to school policy and meets local and state
  • requirements

  • Maintain documentation of referred, screened, and eligible scholars.
  • Manage a detailed log of services provided and services missed due to student or therapist absences.
  • Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services.
  • Develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, teachers, support staff, and
  • administration.

  • Reflect on teaching practices and strive to improve professional competence.
  • Assume responsibility for meeting classroom and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Maintain communication with the Director of Special Education as needed.
  • Attend campus meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Participate in school-wide events, scheduled meetings, and parent conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths

    Education : Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology required. CCC-SLP licensure preferred.

    Experience : Experience as a Speech Language Pathologist preferred

    Special Skills :

  • AZ Department of Health Services Speech and Language Pathology License
  • Ability to enforce high standards of behavior, dress, and character in oneself and with students.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Professional and friendly disposition
  • Proficient with computers and software applications including Microsoft Office tools and Google Suite.
  • Type of fingerprint clearance : Shall be fingerprint checked pursuant to A.R.S 15-512

    Physical functions : Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other

    office equipment. Reach with hands and arms and must occasionally lift and / or move up to 10 pounds.

    Equipment used : Frequent computer use is expected.

    Work Environment : Typical office environment is expected, occasional exposure to outdoor weather. May be required to travel to

    other campuses on occasion.
