Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE :

The Director, Veterinary Technology Program is responsible for directing and providing leadership for all aspects of the Veterinary Technology program, including but not limited to planning, evaluation, budgeting, selection of faculty, maintenance of accreditation, and providing strategies for professional development. Position manages staff and / or resources to provide specific program or service offerings to internal or external stakeholders. Ensures program curriculum integrity and maintenance of accreditation. Responsible for budget planning and resource allocation for the program in conjunction with the Dean. Implements System policies and procedures, effectively communicating on an on-going basis with LSC-System Office.

This position may teach Veterinary Technology classes as needed for an additional stipend.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Ensures the program is in accordance with established AVMA, SACSCOC and THECB accreditation practices and procedures, and ensures legal and safety standards are adhered to in the Veterinary Technology program as relating to USDA, OSHA, TDH-Bureau of Radiation, Bio-Hazard Communication, DEA, and IACUC
  • Monitors the quality of instruction and participates in program review and strategic planning, maintaining approval and accreditation standards at all times. Facilitates curriculum development and improvement in conjunction with the curriculum team.
  • Maintain staffing, including but not limited to participating in recruiting, hiring, and training of adjuncts and lab staff, scheduling and approving hours, monitoring adjunct hours, etc. In conjunction with Dean, evaluates full time faculty per LSC policy.
  • Ensures all applicants are qualified by meeting program admissions requirements, and that admitted students receive adequate orientation to program. Ensures that students meet graduation and licensure requirements upon program completion.
  • Mediates concerns between students and faculty. If conflict is unresolved, follow college procedures for grievance.
  • Develops a variety of schedules, including semester Faculty and Adjunct workloads, semester course / class schedules, and staff schedules.
  • Participate in budget planning, budget allocation and purchasing. (Work with DOM and Dean in planning / allocation of resources, plan for equipment repairs, supply needs, instructional needs).
  • Maintains community relationships, effectively communicating with community partners, participating in marketing, and advocating for the program in the community.
  • Represents LSC-Tomball Veterinary Technology Program by actively participating in State and Local associations and continuing education seminars and serving on LSC committees as needed. Attends after-hours and weekend meetings, conferences, recruiting functions and advisory meetings.
  • Facilitates and participate in the facility cleaning, care, and feeding of all animals housed in both the Small, Large and Exotic Animal areas on weekdays and weekends.
  • May teach courses in the Veterinary Technology program
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • PHYSICAL ABILITIES :

    The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as working with animals, frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over fifty pounds, crouching, or crawling in restricted areas, and defending oneself or others against physical attack.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS :

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment, and any specialized equipment standard within the discipline / industry
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled classroom and / or lab environment with exposure to safety hazards typical within the industry (working with animals and related equipment)
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of non-teaching related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience must include at least 1 year in a veterinary technology program
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Licensed Veterinarian (LV)
  • Graduate of an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) or Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) accredited program
  • Salary

    Hiring salary range is $83,159 - $95,633

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
