Recreation Coordinator
Job Summary :
Under the supervision of the Recreation Superintendent, this position is engaged in planning, marketing, implementing, coordinating, and supervising recreation programs with involvement in managing sports programming, recreation classes, volunteers, special events, sponsorship development, and community-wide activities throughout the year.
TITLE : Recreation Program Coordinator (Part-Time)
PAY RANGE : Range 14 ($22.25 / hr. to $33.33 / hr.) Starting pay typically begins at Step 1, but may be negotiable depending on qualifications, certifications, and experience.
DEPARTMENT : Parks and Recreation
SCHEDULE : Work schedule is typically 20-25 hours per week, but will require more than 25 hours per week during event times. A flexible schedule that will include some evenings, weekends, and holidays will be required.
STATUS : Part-Time (25 hrs. / week)
FLSA CODE : Non-exempt
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Plan, organize, and implement recreation programs including youth and adult sports leagues, after-school programs, recreation classes, camps, and community events.
- Coordinate, schedule, and supervise sports programming such as leagues, tournaments, open play, and clinics; oversee registration, scheduling, officials, equipment, and facility use.
- Develop and execute large-scale special events including Lindon Days, Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween Spooktacular, and other annual or seasonal celebrations.
- Identify, solicit, and manage sponsorships and community partnerships to support sports programs, events, and recreation initiatives; prepare sponsorship proposals, agreements, and recognition materials.
- Work independently and be responsible for overseeing activities at designated locations such as parks, school facilities, community centers, and other public facilities, including set up and take down.
- Prioritize job tasks and complete them within specified time frames while meeting deadlines.
- Assist in recruiting, training, supervising, directing, and evaluating seasonal staff, officials, instructors, and volunteers.
- Prepare reports describing and evaluating programs and events upon completion; identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
- Maintain supplies, equipment, and materials in support of recreation and sports programs; advise supervisor in advance of program equipment and supply needs.
- Monitor day-to-day operations of recreation programs including site visits, resolving complaints, ensuring materials and safety compliance, and organizing program plans and schedules.
- Enforce city policies, procedures, and park rules for staff, instructors, volunteers, participants, and contracted facility renters.
- Work to achieve professional development goals that support the successful completion of department objectives and the City's vision.
- Perform necessary manual labor and skilled tasks that may require lifting heavy objects, stooping, bending, or twisting.
- Perform other such duties as may be assigned.
Required Skills / Abilities :
Working knowledge of the rules and regulations of a variety of recreational and athletic activities.Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation, sports management, sponsorships, and special event planning.Strong organizational, supervisory, planning, programming, and communication skills.Ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate recreation and sports programs.Ability to develop sponsorship and partnership opportunities with local businesses and community organizations.Proficiency with Microsoft Office, internet-based programs, and recreation software systems.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and to respond professionally to inquiries.Capable of handling multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and maintaining a courteous and positive attitude.Valid Utah driver license required.Education / Experience :
Graduation from High School (College graduate is preferred)2 years of recreation programming, education teaching, or related experience.Or an equivalent combination of education and experiencePhysical Requirements :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, talk, hear, read and write. This position requires an
employee to walk or run. Employee may periodically need to reach, stoop, crouch, or kneel. Employee may be asked to lift / carry and / or
move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
