Assistant Controller – Your Job Duties
You will support the company's Controller in managing all aspects of the company's accounting
operations, including primary responsibility for the construction project accounting, job costing, financial reporting, and compliance.
- Oversee a team of two (2), one Staff Accountant and one Accounting Clerk
- Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and GL review
- Prepare and analyze Work in Progress (WIP) reports and Percentage-of-Completion revenue recognition
- Oversee AIA billing, retainage tracking, and change order accounting
- Support subcontractor payment processing, lien waiver collection, and compliance tracking
- Monitor labor costs and coordinate with payroll to allocate labor accurately to projects
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, intercompany accounts, and balance sheet accounts
- Monitor capital expenditures and assist with fixed asset accounting
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Oversee sales tax & compliance processes, including accurate sales tax charges, preparing and filing sales and use tax returns
- Monitor and implement GAAP-compliant accounting policies and procedures
- Assist with annual Company budgeting and forecasting
- Assist with external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation
Assistant Controller - Required Skills, Experience & Culture Fit
You have :
Background and experience with job schedules, job cost accounting, and construction accountingStrong Microsoft Excel skills for data management and analysis, multi-tab spreadsheet, complex formulasExperience managing financials and reporting for multiple cost and profit centersEffectively manage all accounting functions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentProven experience in accounting within an enterprise-level environment and strong proficiency with ERP systemsFinancial personnel management or supervisory experienceBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldAssistant Controller – You Might Have (Desired not Required)
Prior experience with Sage or AcumaticaExperience or prior exposure to sales tax accountingCPA license, CMA license or background in public accountingAssistant Controller – Benefits & Pay for You
This role is located in the office in either Bakersfield or Lodi, CA.
Hours are 8 am to 5 pm with flexibility in start and stop time based on your schedule needs.
Your compensation will be $95,000 to $110,000 annual salary, plus bonus potential.
