Position Summary
As Field Operations Manager you are responsible for providing support and technical expertise on a continual / on-demand basis in order to optimize equipment performance, troubleshoot / resolve equipment issues, support emergency repairs and other ongoing O&M compliance. Drive continuous improvements in training, safety, QA / QC, customer service, and productivity throughout all operations and ensure adherence / compliance with regulations, policies and procedure. Collaborate with management to support client relations and project coordination with assets and clients. Assisting the company to grow internal programs / training and provide oversight and support for all retained services. In this role you will be called upon for your management skills and technical expertise in one or multiple disciplines including PV , inverter, medium voltage, battery storage (BESS) and other solar services. Provide technical skills, functional and safety related training to both new and experienced field teams. Participates in hiring, performance evaluation, career development, and disciplinary activities. Leading initiatives, scheduling work,
and qualifying technicians and contractors / sub-contractors for field operations.
Travel Requirements : Travel regionally and occasionally nationally, to meet field operations needs.
Essential Duties & Approximate Commitment of Time
1. Lead key initiative to grow and develop the field operations group. Provide management,
leadership, oversight and in-person field training. Assist in generating proposals, statements
of work and cost estimates (hourly, NTE, etc). Develop real-time solutions to site operations
issues and direct teams in executing such solutions. Develops and executes operational
strategy in connection with regional / national portfolios, clients and service tasks. Formulate
testing / troubleshooting / audit / safety plans for all services. Partners with senior leaders to build
a culture of safety across all projects. Perform regular field visits for training, process
implementation and best practices in relation to service activities and safety, JHA, OSHA &
NFPA70E requirements.
2. Audit site processes for safety and compliance assurance, health and safety objectives and
operational regulatory and policy compliance. Ensures a safe, event-free work environment
through strict adherence to company and client protocols, safety procedures and regulations.
Provides leadership and accountability in order to achieve desired safety results (e.g. lock-
out / tag-out compliance, contractor and technical oversight, safety meeting attendance,
recommending and authoring required changes in related policies or procedures and work
practices).
3. Review service tickets & reports for site visits, testing services, special projects, repairs,
equipment modifications and site / equipment troubleshooting investigations. Provide reports,
written and oral communication in a timely and complete fashion. Ensure internal ticketing
generation / closure and timely billing of all services activities and projects. 10%
4. Provide technical skills, functional and safety related training to field engineers, technicians,
electricians and other members of the organization, with a focus on field operation services,
testing and operational support. Participates in hiring, coaching, performance evaluation,
career development, and disciplinary activities, and qualifies contractors / sub-contractors for
field suitability
5. Ensures a safe, event-free work environment through strict adherence to company and client
protocols, safety procedures and regulations. Provides leadership and accountability in order
to achieve desired safety results (e.g. lock-out / tag-out compliance, contractor and technical
oversight, safety meeting attendance, recommending and authoring required changes in
related policies or procedures and work practices). Other responsibilities as directed by
manager.
Position Requirements
Education Required : College degree (BSEE / BSME) preferred; Technical School Degree, or,
equivalent combination of education and experience considered
Experience Required : 5+ years of specialist, technical experience with PV Systems, BESS, Data
acquisition systems; Experience working with 600v-1500v systems;
Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE and current NFPA-70e requirements;
Proficient with technology and computing programs / platforms; 3+ years
C&I / Utility Scale solar work experience; 3+ years leading operations of
solar sites and / or project maintenance and compliance
Experience Preferred : 7+ years of managing direct reports
Specialized or Technical Knowledge
Licenses, Certifications Preferred :
Inverter and / or BESS manufacturers’ certifications (e.g. SunGrow, Power
Electronics, Solectria, BYD, etc)
Thermography certifications (Level 1)
AVO transformer, SEL, Relay certificates of training
IT / networking skills : i.e. IP addressing, familiarity with RS485, Modbus,
TCP / IP, etc.
NABCEP PV Installer or O&M Certification
OSHA 10 / 30 Certification
Completion of NFPA 70E courses
CPR / First Aid
Functional Knowledge : Knowledge of National Electrical Code and standard
design / construction practices; Clear understanding of OSHA safe
workplace practices and procedures; Ability to read and understand
electrical single-line and three-line diagrams
Company / Industry Related Knowledge : Electric & related utilities maintenance, PV performance, PV repairs,
testing, commissioning, installation, maintenance & optimization
Physical Requirements : Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly
Ability to climb ladders (a-frame, ship-style, movable or fixed)
Ability to move safely over uneven terrain
Ability to sit or drive for prolonged periods
Ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 50 pounds
Ability to work in extreme weather
