The Opportunity

We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Quality Assurance (QA) Manager to oversee quality operations at our Mesa, AZ food manufacturing facility. This role will ensure compliance with food safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies for both food and dietary supplement production. The ideal candidate has a strong background in food and supplement quality control, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to build and lead a QA team.

This role is expected to supervise a small team, including 1 QA Supervisor and 2–3 QA Technicians.

Quality Assurance Oversight :

  • Lead all site QA and food safety activities to ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, FSMA, cGMP, and internal standards.
  • Oversee and maintain documentation for QA programs including HACCP, SOPs, SSOPs, and batch records.
  • Monitor in-process and finished product testing to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Conduct internal audits and prepare for third-party and regulatory inspections.
  • Review and maintain in house labels for compliance.

Team Leadership :

  • Supervise and train quality personnel; build a high-performing QA team as the site scales.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and professional development to direct reports.
  • Assign daily tasks and responsibilities to QA staff, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration :

  • Work closely with production, R&D, maintenance, and sanitation teams to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in production planning to align quality expectations and minimize risk.
  • Support new product launches and process changes by establishing quality control protocols.
  • Continuous Improvement & Root Cause Analysis :

  • Investigate product deviations, customer complaints, and non-conformances; lead root cause analysis and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce quality-related incidents and improve product consistency.
  • Analyze trends in test data, deviations, and audit findings to identify areas for improvement.
  • Documentation & Compliance :

  • Maintain accurate records for product quality, inspections, deviations, and validations.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with cGMPs, allergen control programs, labeling regulations and traceability requirements.
  • Support implementation of new quality systems or upgrades to meet industry best practices.
  • Supervisory Responsibility

    This position is responsible for supervising a small but growing team, including 1 QA Supervisor and several QA Technicians.

    Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of food safety and quality systems, lab testing procedures, and label compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and QA software / tools (e.g., TrackWise, MasterControl, etc.).
  • Required Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in quality assurance / control in a food or supplement manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with HACCP, SQF, GFSI, FDA audits, USDA Regulatory oversight, and dietary supplement regulations.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred or demonstrated readiness to step into a leadership role.
  • Preferred Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field, or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • HACCP and PCQI certifications strongly preferred.
  • SQF Practitioner, GMP, or other food safety certifications are a plus.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish) skills a plus
  • Work Environment and Physical Demands

    The employee is primarily working in a warehouse environment, between 0 and 45 degrees Fahrenheit. The noise level in the warehouse can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust. Work may be performed under hazardous conditions such as operating heavy equipment within the Warehouse. Required to wear all issued safety gear at all times. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  The position requires lifting heavy objects, walking, sitting and standing for long periods of time. Performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions such as cold. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively bends, crouches, twists, sprints or throws objects. The employee must climb and maintain body balance.  Frequently lifts items up to 40 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

    Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. This position does not require travel.
