Medical Assistant
Under direct physician supervision, assists providers, nurses and allied health personnel in delivering comprehensive, high quality patient care to Kaiser Permanente members.
Essential responsibilities include :
- Assisting the physician in providing comprehensive medical care to targeted patient population in the ambulatory clinic setting by :
- Preparing the patient for the medical examination.
- Performing rooming-in, screening activities and patient histories for the appropriate to patient population.
- Performing assigned clinical tasks and / or procedures.
- Setting up patient for virtual visit in clinic.
- Turning over room following patient visit.
- Serving as chaperone for exams if requested by patient.
- Assisting with scheduling follow-up appointments and activities as recommended by the physician.
- Performing clinical tasks and / or procedures appropriate to targeted patient population under the delegation and supervision of a licensed physician.
- Immediately notifying physician or other licensed health care provider of patients observed to be in distress.
- Documenting all care given and actions taken on behalf of the patient in KP HealthConnect.
- Facilitating smooth and efficient operation of the clinical department by monitoring the flow of patients and intervening as appropriate to minimize wait times and promote a positive experience for the patient.
- Assisting with inventory and requisition of required supplies; keeping exam and procedure rooms adequately stocked at all times.
- Engaging in positive interactions with Kaiser Permanente members, visitors and fellow staff members at all times.
- Monitoring and managing refrigerated medications under the supervision of the practicing physician.
- Serving and protecting the practice by adhering to professional standards; facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements.
- Administering medications per KP policy and using the 5 rights of medication administration.
- Performing basic diagnostic and laboratory tests and specimen collection per KP policy and CLIA regulations.
- Assisting with routine patient education and self-care instructions as directed by providers.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant from National Healthcareer Association OR NCCT National Certified Medical Assistant OR Medical Assistant Certificate from American Association of Medical Assistants OR Registered Medical Assistant from American Medical TechnologistsBasic Life Support from American Heart AssociationAdditional requirements include :
Completion of all Kaiser Permanente Medical Assistant required competencies within the first sixty (60) days of employment, and annually thereafter.Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.Effective communication (written and oral) skills.Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.Problem solving skills.Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.Must be able to work in a Labor / Management Partnership environment.Must maintain certifications current and complete annual CEUs to meet CLIA regulations and / or licensing requirements.Preferred qualifications include :
