Job Purpose :

The Controller reports directly to the Managing Partner. The Controller is responsible for coordinating, administering, and controlling financial operations. Provides tax, insurance, and other reports required by governmental regulations. Reviews, analyzes, and interprets financial and budgetary reports. Directs all aspects of accounting operations and the preparation of annual financial forecasts. Oversees the development of financial accounting systems required to maintain reporting requirements. A construction industry background is preferred.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Prepare or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Supervise employees performing financial reporting, accounting, and budgeting duties.
  • Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, as well as federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
  • Conduct or coordinate audits or reviews of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and statutes.
  • Receive, record, and authorize requests for disbursements by company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing personnel actions, such as promotions and dismissals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance, and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.
  • Coordinate and direct the financial planning, budgeting, procurement, or investment activities of all or part of an organization.
  • Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
  • Analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
  • Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
  • Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies, procedures, and the efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  • Lead staff training and development in budgeting and financial management areas.
  • Monitor financial activities and details, such as cash flow and reserve levels, to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements are met

Responsibilities / Duties

  • Evaluate the department’s strengths and weaknesses and offer continuous improvement to the organization.
  • Attend required meetings for collaboration and communication efforts.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures, standards and safety rules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and directed.
  • Must be available to work Monday through Friday, 8 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m.
  • May be required to work additional hours and / or weekends, as needed, to meet deadlines or to fulfill travel obligations.
  • Experience / Education :

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in accounting from four-year college or university
  • 10+ years of accounting experience with at least three years in a managerial role
  • MBA or CPA designation is a strong plus
  • Equivalent combination of education / job experience
  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

    General :   Must be efficient with strong attention to detail. Must has strong skills in organization and planning, demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team-oriented environment and exercise sound judgement and problem solving. Must have extensive knowledge and understanding of accounting and finance.

    Technical :   Excellent understanding of PC and standard Office software and hardware.

    Personal : Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language; ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize in order to execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, both personally and delegated through staff. Must have strong customer support orientation (for internal / external customers), demonstrated professional demeanor, and the ability to maintain confidential information

    Communication :   Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from top management, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Reasoning :   Ability to solve complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Mathematical : Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, ratios, percentages, commissions, proportions, area, circumference, and volume.

    Financial : Strong knowledge of accounting, budgetary and management principles, practices and procedures. Technical and comprehensive knowledge of all finance, financial planning, accounting and tax areas of a business including an excellent understanding of GAAP. Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to financial operations.

    Computer : Ability to proficiently use computer software programs (accounting software-Q360) and related computer applications, Microsoft Office (Word, Advanced Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and other industry-specific technology tools used within the organization. Willingness to learn additional software applications.

    Salary range $120,000.00 to $150,000.00 plus bonuses / kpi incentives
