Job Summary
The Clinic Staff Assistant I Float position supports various clinics and satellite locations. This role involves direct interaction with patientsboth over the phone and in personto support front office operations. Under close supervision, the assistant will learn and demonstrate proficiency in at least one clinical front office operation within six months. A patient-centered attitude, compassion, and empathy are essential.
This position offers a career ladder based on progressive responsibilities and performance.
Experience and Education
Required : High school diploma or GED
Preferred : Bachelor's degree in a related field and / or relevant experience (not required)
Job Duties
Deliver superior customer service, representing UT Southwestern in a positive and professional manner
Learn and demonstrate proficiency in at least one of the following front office operations :
Patient Registration and Scheduling
Patient Access Call Center
Patient Arrival & Admitting
Patient Financial Services / Collections
Patient After-Visit Scheduling
Medical Insurance Verification
Internal & External Referrals Management
Procedure : Precertification & Authorization
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the EPIC electronic medical record (EMR) system, clinical workflows, and policies
Build rapport with internal and external team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and UT Southwestern policy
Keep the waiting area neat and stocked with appropriate materials
Ensure adequate inventory of office supplies and patient forms
Core functions may include :
Direct interaction with or care for patients
Interaction with human-subjects research participants
Handling patient records (including financial records)
Managing human-subjects research records
Other Duties : Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic computer, data entry, and typing skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong internal and external customer service skills
Ability to handle confidential information daily
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in outpatient clinical areas
