RND Architects is seeking a collaborative, community-focused architect to join our practice as a Project Architect.

Based in Durham, RND is an award-winning design firm specializing in renovation and adaptive reuse for higher-education, healthcare, and government facilities and institutions across North Carolina. We're looking for an experienced architect who brings curiosity, initiative, and a passion for projects that serve public facilities and institutions. The ideal candidate is comfortable leading projects, mentoring teams, and serving as a trusted client partner. Role Highlights

Lead architectural projects from concept through construction, providing both design vision and technical oversight
Prepare design and construction drawings in coordination with Principals and Project Managers
Coordinate day-to-day progress across internal teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure cohesive, high-quality outcomes
Mentor, support, and lead emerging professionals and contribute to a positive, inclusive team culture that fosters professional growth
Collaborate with Principals and Project Managers to navigate challenges related to schedule, budget, or scope
Represent the firm with confidence and professionalism

Requirements

Professional degree in Architecture and licensed to practice in North Carolina

Minimum of 10 years of experience in architectural practice, with a strong background in public-sector work and demonstrated leadership managing projects of varying scale and complexity

Proven ability to translate conceptual design into technically sound, buildable solutions

Proficiency with key design and project tools such as Revit, Bluebeam, SketchUp, and Microsoft Projects

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable leading consultant coordination, client interactions, and internal team collaboration with clarity and confidence

Thorough understanding of project workflows, from pre-design to closeout

Advanced knowledge of building codes, construction standards, and project delivery methods, including awareness of risk, liability, and professional responsibility

Solution-oriented and growth mindset with the ability to take initiative while working collaboratively

Interest in contributing to firm growth
