Organizational Overview

The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is a growing nonprofit in Boston, MA with a mission to restore and improve the Emerald Necklace for all. The Conservancy is dedicated to stewarding the 1,100-acre linear park system in Boston and Brookline connecting over 15 diverse neighborhoods. Job Overview

The Emerald Necklace Conservancy seeks a proactive, results-driven fundraising professional to lead the Conservancy's Development team internal operations. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer and as part of the Development team, the Development Operations Manager oversees all day-to-day operations of a successful Development team and program. They will also assist with a portfolio of institutional donors and prospects. This position will work closely with the Development and the Marketing teams to ensure timely, accurate, and impactful development activities including campaigns, relationship management, and events.

This is a hybrid, full-time, exempt position; currently, Conservancy staff work in our Jamaica Plain office two days per week. This role will require donor meetings in the Emerald Necklace parks, off-site donor meetings and events and occasional evening and weekend hours.

Key Responsibilities

Department Operations (60%)

  • Oversee all aspects of the Development team operations including CRM (Raiser's Edge), gift processing and acknowledgments, reporting and prospect management.
  • Create and manage comprehensive reporting for development staff, management and Board, including regular reporting, fundraising analytics, and special project tracking.
  • Develop policies and procedures for Raiser's Edge and other Development processes as needed.
  • Supervise the Development Coordinator who is responsible for Raiser's Edge operation, including gift processing, reporting, gift acknowledgements.
  • Manage the Board Development Committee meetings and support Committee members and other volunteers as needed.
  • Coordinate timely, complete briefing materials for senior staff and volunteer solicitors.
  • Maintain Development-related portions of SharePoint files to ensure that information is current, well-organized and accessible.
  • Manage the Development budget and supplies of stationery, collateral and gifts for donors.

Stewardship and Communications (20%)

  • Manage timeline and data selection for mail and email outreach to donors, and coordinate with the Marketing and Communications team on production; manage signing and mailing for personalized mailings.
  • Working closely with the Marketing & Communications team, ensure external channels (website, social media, etc.) are up-to-date and highlight Development priorities, opportunities, and donor-forward messaging.
  • Maintain current proposals, conversation prompts and other Conservancy materials for donor presentations.
  • Communicate and collaborate with external stakeholders in a timely, professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintain donor recognition lists and assist with appropriate stewardship for individuals, corporate funders and foundations, including production of the annual report.
  • Institutional Giving Support (20%)

  • Ensure that deadlines for proposals and reports are assigned and on schedule in collaboration with external grant writer(s) and Conservancy staff.
  • Assist in preparation of grant proposals and reports and maintain grants records.
  • Draft proposals for foundation and corporate grants requesting ≤$25,000.
  • Perform other responsibilities as directed or as necessary.
  • Key Qualifications

    Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with office management, staff management and donor management systems, preferably within a medium to large sized nonprofit ($5+ million budget).
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite and CRMs. Experience with Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge preferred.
  • Ability to research, collect, organize and analyze data.
  • Donor stewardship experience preferred.
  • Strong work ethic, highly responsive and attentive to details; excellent analytical, organizational and time management necessary.
  • Familiarity with environmental stewardship a plus.
  • Education / Credentials

    Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, bringing flexibility, a sense of confidence and humor, strong management skills, and an ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to serve as a positive ambassador for the Conservancy, the Emerald Necklace park system and Conservancy projects.

  • An understanding of the Greater Boston philanthropic community preferred.
  • Must be able to work weekends and evenings-both indoors and outdoors-as needed.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn project management and collaboration tools helpful.
