As an Instructor at Sylvan, your primary responsibilities are :
Just Teaching. No Lesson Plans. No Preparation. As a Sylvan Instructor, you will be trained on Sylvan's proven, personal approach to learning and given the tools to teach in a small group, 3 : 1 setting. Our teachers have the opportunity to grow their craft with professional training in several academic areas such as Reading, Writing, Math, Study Skills, STEM, and ACT!
Requirements :
- Working towards or has obtained a Four year degree in Education or equivalent Bachelor’s or Masters Degree.
- Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension preferred for reading teachers
- We ask that you are available at least 2 days per week for 2 hours and one weekend day. You can work more than this, as well.

Essential Job Functions :
Prepares for each instructional session; Gathers and prepares materials as appropriateGreets students and initiates instruction to personally engage each studentInstructs students according to the design of the Sylvan programsManages students, tasks, and time to create a balanced and robust instructional sessionEvaluates and records the progress of each student on their program assignmentUses praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learnManages the conclusion of each instructional session and manages the completion of learning log and transition activities; Supports procedures to ensure student safety and well-beingCommunicates specific student needs to Center staffAttends periodic staff meetings and completes ongoing training as neededCompletes certification training on each Sylvan program taught to studentsAt Sylvan, we’re focused on building academic confidence, igniting intellectual curiosity and inspiring a love for learning — all of which make a big impact in school and in life.
