SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is work providing practical nursing services to developmentally disabled individuals at Tacachale. Work is performed under the direction and general supervision of a registered nurse, and is reviewed for compliance, standards, and procedures.

Nursing :

  • Prepares, administers, and documents medications and treatments as per nursing policy and procedure.
  • Maintains documentation in accordance with established policies and procedures. Observes, records, and reports physical and behavior response to medication and treatment.
  • Uses nursing process for ongoing care of individuals as need is identified. Intervention would include, but not be limited to observation, referral to a registered nurse, medication, and treatment as prescribed and / or crisis intervention.
  • Maintains work area, medical supplies, and equipment, and adheres to infection control policies.
  • Accompanies individuals to clinic and all off center appointments as assigned.
  • Provides emergency nursing service within the scope of nursing practice.
  • Provides nursing care and administers treatment as directed by a registered nurse to subacute, chronic, and convalescent residents.
  • Assists a registered nurse and / or a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) in clinics, diagnostic tests, and physical examinations by preparing clinic room for use, collecting routine specimens, taking and recording temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure.
  • Prepares and administers hypodermic injections as ordered by the attending LIP.
  • Performs simple rehabilitative nursing procedures for selected chronically ill and aged residents.
  • Assists a registered nurse with screening procedures.
  • Assists LIP with physical examinations.
  • Assists registered nurses in completing and maintaining medical records and residents' progress.
  • Incident Management

  • Conduct an initial assessment and provide appropriate treatment as soon as possible after being notified or becoming aware of an injury or possible injury.
  • Complete Section II of the DDC Incident Report Form by providing a detailed description of the injury (size, shape, color, location on the body).
  • Indicate the treatment given and the plans of care.
  • Establish the Type of Incident and Level of Injury.
  • Take two (2) sets of photos and complete the Photographic Would Documentation form.
  • Ensure the Florida Abuse Hotline is contacted if abuse, neglect, exploitation, mishandling, mistreatment, or sexual abuse / activity is witnessed, known, or suspected.
  • Forward the Incident Report Form to the supervisor / in-charge staff for further action.
  • As warranted, comply, and assist authorized investigators from APD and other agencies, such as law enforcement, DCF Adult Protective Services, Medicaid Fraud Unit, and the Agency for Healthcare Administration.
  • Administrative

  • Assists in the development and monitoring of nursing service objectives.
  • Participates as appropriate in all objectives developed for the individuals assigned.
  • Works in conjunction with the registered nurse to assure continuity of care and adherence to IDF / DD standards.
  • Attends interdisciplinary team meetings and special clinics as assigned.
  • Participates in and reinforces health care teaching to assure adherence to current principles of care as ordered.
  • Attends in-service training and participates in continuing education programs for the developmentally disabled person.
  • Monitors and role models infection control programs during daily activities.
  • Adheres to ethical practice standards.
  • Participates in nursing committees as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties.
  • POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid Florida Driver's License.
  • If hired with an out-of-state license a valid Florida State driver's license must be obtained within 30 days.
  • Corrective Lenses Restricted license are acceptable provided the driver wears the corrective lenses while operating a state vehicle.
  • Must be willing to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency.
  • Must be willing to work beyond the normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels and meet the needs of the Agency.
  • Must maintain certification in Prevention and Safety Strategies, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Direct Care In-Service.
  • Must possess and maintain a current Licensed Practical Nurse license.
  • This position may be required to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency per APD OP 2-0035.

    This position is critical to the safety and supervision of residents and may require the incumbent to work beyond their normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels in the facility.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

  • Lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Interact, assess and respond to individuals who are developmentally disabled.
  • Provide emergency nursing care to include but not limited to basic life support, emergency care for choking (abdominal thrust), rescue breathing and use of emergency equipment.
  • Stand, walk, sit, or bend for periods of time in excess of three hours.
  • Assist in lifting and transferring residents weighing more than 100 lbs., as needed.
  • Successfully complete Prevention and Safety Strategies Training (PASS).

    As a condition of employment, a person appointed to a position in the State Personnel System is required to participate in the Direct Deposit Program.     BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

    It is the policy of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities that applicants for employment undergo Level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.

    No applicant for a designated position will be employed or permitted to volunteer until the Level 2 screening results are received, reviewed, and approved by the Agency.

    Level 2 background screening shall include, but not be limited to, fingerprinting for Statewide criminal and juvenile records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and Federal criminal records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and may include local criminal records checks through local law enforcement agencies.

    Pursuant to S. 110.1127(1), Florida Statutes, this position requires a background investigation, including fingerprinting.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
