The Preconstruction, Virtual Design and Construction Lead Designer role involves working closely with our in-house or external VDC team to ensure Comfort Systems USA Southwest (CSUSA-SW) standards are incorporated into mechanical and / or plumbing system designs, aligned with project requirements. The role also includes modeling and interpreting design intent into a constructible building.
The essential duties include :
Participating in constructability meetings to understand project scope and proposed changes, and working with the Construction Project Manager to finalize the VDC scope of work and deliverables.
Assisting with RFI language and documentation to support RFIs as needed.
Collaborating with clients, project owners, and design teams to coordinate mechanical and plumbing systems, providing solutions for conflicts and collisions.
Meeting weekly with the VDC team to address challenges and resolve issues to meet project expectations.
Reviewing BIM models and related drawings for completeness and accuracy.
Communicating issues that could cause delays to the VDC Manager.
Working with project teams to review models and drawings, addressing concerns proactively.
Developing VDC documentation and guidelines for external partners.
Maintaining and improving discipline-specific design details.
Supporting internal and external stakeholders and project teams with technical delivery and interpretation of construction documents.
Coordinating models internally and externally to produce accurate deliverables with minimal rework.
Executing tasks within set parameters and maintaining knowledge of relevant software tools.
Supporting business development initiatives.
Qualifications include :
Associate degree or equivalent, or 3-5 years related experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical and business documents.
Proficiency in MS Office, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Autodesk Revit Fabrication.
Strong reasoning, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Physical ability to perform job duties, with accommodations as needed.
Work primarily in an office environment, with potential exposure to job site conditions.
