The Dayton VA Medical Center is looking for a Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager for Med 1 department in the Acute Care Nursing Service.
The Acute Care Nurse Manager demonstrates the fundamental knowledge of the unit and is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of care based on age specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team and participating in process improvement initiatives.
The Acute Care Nurse Manager (NM) is responsible to manage one or more defined areas in Acute Care. The NM allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe and compassionate nursing care, based on current standards of practice. The NM provides clinical and administrative leadership and expertise, serves as a link between nursing personnel and other disciplines, and implements the vision, mission, plans and standards of the Medical Center and Nursing Services. The NM collaborates with executive nursing staff to contribute to strategic planning, innovation, recruitment and retention of nurses, and promotes shared decision-making, keeping staff informed.
The Nurse I Level I Nurse Manager (NM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the 24 / 7 operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. The NM is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs / processes.
The NM seeks knowledge from professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. They equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. The NM maintains knowledge and ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards, Directives, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOP).
This clinical position includes a level of physicality normally associated with inpatient care, including bending, grasping, kneeling, performing moderate lifting, carrying tasks of up to 35 pounds per Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) guidelines and using an appropriate mechanical lift. Candidates must possess the ability to pivot their waist and neck, push and pull items not greater than 35 pounds and reach within a five-foot distance or above shoulder height. The position requires sitting, squatting, standing, walking, and twisting, alongside wrist flexion and extension. Employees are expected to employ proper body mechanics during lifting. Requires adequate vision to accurately perform the assigned duties, distinguish basic colors and assess patients and the environment safely. The position requires the ability to hear at a level to perform the assigned duties, and the use of hearing aids is permitted.
