Performs professional level accounting and auditing work of a routine nature in a number of assigned areas relating to municipal accounting procedures and records. This classification provides the professional level support to the City's Accounting section. It is the entry level to the operational professional accountant series. The position exercises a limited degree of independent judgment on assigned accounting projects and has limited accountability for ongoing decision making associated with his / her work. It is distinguished from the Senior Accounting Assistant by the presence of professional level skills and the assignment of professional accountant duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Reviews accounting documents to ensure accuracy of information and calculations and makes correcting entries.Examines supporting documentation to establish proper authorization and conformance with agreements, contracts, and state and federal regulations.Prepares and maintains controls and subsidiary accounting records involving a variety of transactions and accounts.Prepares trial balances and financial reports.Assists with month-end journal entries.Prepares journal entries and periodic reconciliation of general ledger, journal, subsidiary accounts and bank statements.Compiles and prepares financial records, general and subsidiary ledgers and supporting schedules.Maintains expenditure and budgetary control accounts.Maintains accounting inventory of equipment and identify new purchases.Prepares cash transfers and loans between funds and budget categories.Maintains complete accounting record keeping for State, County, and other funding sources.Sets up and maintains financial records for special utility funds.Maintains and reconciles trust account records.Maintains and updates fixed asset records.Provides back-up to various accounting functions such as payroll, receivables and payables.Assists with field audits.Enters and retrieves data and prepare reports from an online or personal computer system, following established formats. Prepares and updates a variety of reports, which may require the use of arithmetic calculationsReceives direct supervision and general direction from the Director of Finance and / or Assistant Finance Director.May provide lead direction and limited supervision to other accounting and / or clerical classifications.Performs related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications

LICENSES and CERTIFICATES :
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business administration, finance, accounting, public administration or a related field required.One (1) to Two (2) years of sub-professional experience in accounting support work is desirable.One (1) year of supervisory or lead experience is desirable.Selection Process :
