Mental Health Therapist

The Outpatient Mental Health Therapist position provides mental health treatment services to youth, ages 2-18, and their families. This is an in-person position that may provide services in-person or via telehealth. Therapists work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and their clients may also receive skills training, case management, SUD treatment services, and medication management from other Morrison providers. The therapist's caseload size is dependent on their program (clinic, community-based, or school-based) and on the level of need (level of care) and engagement of each client on their caseload.

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Provides mental health services for youth, ages 2-18, and their families : assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, individual, and family therapy.
  • Provides case management, crisis support, safety planning, coordination of care, referrals to ancillary and / or specialty services, and group therapy, as needed.
  • Completes all clinical documentation in accordance with state, federal and organizational requirements, emphasizing collaborative documentation.
  • Abided by the appropriate code of ethics and follows all of Morrison's policies and procedures.
  • Is present and punctual for work, supervision, and / or meetings. Works well within a team environment, sharing workload, credit, and opportunities.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to developing a thorough knowledge and application of the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies & practices.
  • Participate in staff development, in-services, and training related to workplace effectiveness; model professional behaviors and implement improvements to business practices with awareness of their impact in a trauma-informed behavioral healthcare organization.
  • Completes other duties as assigned to ensure successful operation of program or department.

Competencies :

  • Assessment and Diagnostic Skills : Training and knowledge in assessing and diagnosing mental health conditions in children using standardized tools and clinical judgment.
  • Treatment Planning : Skill in collaboratively identifying measurable goals / objectives for treatment.
  • Basic Counseling Skills : Training and knowledge of basic counseling skills including active listening, being aware of nonverbal communication, and building rapport.
  • Privacy and Confidentiality : Understanding HIPAA and ensuring client confidentiality and privacy.
  • Suicide Prevention and Intervention : Demonstrates knowledge and skill in screening for suicide risk, conducting suicide risk assessments, and effectively triaging.
  • Crisis Intervention and Management : Demonstrates sufficient knowledge to support clients experiencing a mental health crisis.
  • Mandatory Reporting : Understands and complies with mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Required Position Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or related field
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a mental health, social services, educational, or other related setting.
  • Preferred Position Qualifications :

  • Early Childhood Experience and Interest
  • Bilingual in Spanish, both written and spoken. Must clear a language proficiency test for Spanish.
  • CADC Certification
  • Current Oregon or other state behavioral health license
  • Two years direct treatment experience with children and / or adolescents in a mental health setting
  • Other Requirements :

  • Pass a DHS (Department of Human Services) criminal history background
  • If driving for position, must meet agency driving requirement.
  • Working Conditions :

    Environment : Work is done in clinical offices, community settings, including Morrison Residential, administration buildings, public locations, and social service sites. Breaks and meals are subject to interruption. Universal Precautions and remaining alert to the environment are critical to address the potential for violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants.

    Mental demands : Work assigned is diverse and may involve addressing new and unique circumstances. The work might be unpredictable and disrupts planned tasks, requiring flexible time management.

    Physical demands : Ability to remain calm and emotionally available serving youth, adults and or families who have experienced trauma. Proficient with office equipment and physical movement. Ability to perform physical interventions if needed in accordance with program and training. Physical dexterity for reaching, stooping, and repetitive wrist and hand motions.
