As an Employment Consultant you will be responsible for facilitating inclusive employment for individuals with diverse abilities. In this role you will carry a caseload of individuals that need support with finding employment. You will support these individuals by providing career assessments and job readiness training. Additionally, you will work with community employers by educating them about developing a diverse work force and understanding reasonable accommodations.
This position requires travel from work site to work site, to and from Administrative Offices, Vocational Rehabilitation, Department of Health Services, and other off-site locations. May require weekend and holiday availability.
Essential Duties
- Approach businesses and learn about their operations, take tours, and look for opportunities to employ individuals with diverse abilities (with or without accommodations under ADA).
- Provide education and technical assistance to prospective employers on the benefits of employing workers with diverse abilities.
- Observe the work site’s culture and assist the worker in building social bonds with supervisors and co-workers for integration.
- Keep apprised of general labor market trends, including health and safety considerations.
- Learn how to perform various jobs at employment sites to demonstrate and work with individuals during initial on-the-job training to coach performance. Provide onsite support and encouragement and advocate for individuals as needed.
- Manage a caseload of 15-20 individuals and write and submit timely progress reports.
- Assist individuals with job preparation activities such as resumes, cover letters, mock interviews, and utilizing public transportation.
- Ensure all required documentation is complete, timely, accurate and representative of a professional organization. Follow licensing regulations, agency policies, and practices and assure the protection of individual rights and safety.
- Provide Discovery / Career Exploration services in the community and develop a vocational profile which provides employment-related information essential to the development of the individual’s career goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Chief Program Officer.
