Community Health Worker I
The Pima County Health Department is seeking passionate individuals to join the Cavity Free AZ Program to reach children who do not have access to regular dental care. The dental team provides preventive dental services in a 36-foot recreational vehicle that has been converted into our mobile dental unit. In this grant-funded position, Community Health Worker I (CHW), offers a variety of responsibilities such as scheduling and preparing for mobile dental clinics. The CHW is responsible for assisting with the outreach to schools, scheduling educational presentations and clinics school districts. You will work closely with schools and community partners and provide a short dental sealant education in classrooms. As part of the Oral Health team, the CHW will also assist with the daily clinic processes including chairside dental assisting. You will receive training and ongoing support to develop your dental skills. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse group of children and families and make a meaningful impact on their health and well-being.

High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certification. (Proof of High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certification must be provided at time of application.) Selection Process : Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated / scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments / testing may be required as part of the selection process.
Licenses and Certificates : Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services' review and approval of the candidate's driving record. Some positions may require County-provided certification in capillary finger punctures within six months of appointment. The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County.
Physical / Sensory Work Requirements : Frequently operates a computer and other office equipment. Frequently observes details at a close range. Occasionally remains in a stationary position. Frequently operates out in the community indoors and outdoors at events and meetings. Occasionally moves about inside an office.
Working Conditions : The Community Health Worker I operates in a professional office setting and out in the community. This role routinely changes locations and functions as necessary to support the programs. Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position; however, an alternative work schedule may be an option based on the needs of the program. This role may participate in outdoor activities in variable weather conditions.
