Materials & Corrosion Technician

The Materials & Corrosion Technician works with staff technicians, expert engineers, and scientists to assist in defining experimental programs and executing those programs to assess the corrosion, mechanical, and physical properties of materials. This position requires assisting in designing, building, and conducting laboratory tests of materials in a wide variety of chemical environments, including those at high temperature and / or high pressure (some involving hydrogen sulfide or other inherently risky components).

The Materials and Corrosion Technician is expected to :

  • Safely conduct laboratory testing, including sample preparation, test setup, test progress monitoring, data collection, documentation, and reporting.
  • Carry out testing of materials in various chemical environments, including electrochemical testing, immersion testing in high pressure autoclave using toxic gases, and other novel or challenging conditions.
  • Perform data acquisition / recording / documentation per departmental quality and safety requirements
  • Execute laboratory maintenance or new / revamp projects via the MOC process with required safety systems, e.g., Lock Out and Tag Out (LOTO), engineering controls, administrative controls, portable and fixed detection, F&G systems etc.
  • Timely deliver validated and reduced data / reports to project leader.

Requirements :

  • Credibly experienced technical professional with experience in laboratory or process operations including assembly and maintenance of high-pressure equipment, data acquisition systems, and associated safety.
  • Familiarity with corrosion and environmental cracking standard test methodologies relevant to the oil & gas industry, particularly NACE, AMPP, and ASTM.
  • Strong project delivery mindset and a high sense of personal accountability to deliver commitments.
  • Experience with safety systems and practices, management of change, and handling of hazardous gases.
