External Operations Manager | Residential Construction Leadership

What You'll Do

Leadership & Team Management (~35%)

  • Lead and manage a team of ~9 direct reportsincluding Superintendents, Warranty, and Field Supportwhile holding them accountable to performance and quality standards.
  • Conduct weekly 1 : 1s with direct reports and facilitate team check-ins.
  • Promote a culture of accountability by reinforcing core values and tracking performance against defined metrics.
  • Coach team members through regular feedback and create tailored development plans to support their career growth.
  • Conduct job site visits.
  • Provide real-time coaching.
  • Serve as the field operations voice on the leadership team, shaping strategy and driving alignment across departments.
  • Foster a team culture of shared ownership and collaboration across roles and departments.

Field Operations & Process Ownership (~30%)

  • Assign jobs and territories based on workload and team fit.
  • Oversee field scheduling and calendar coordination to ensure timely communication and efficient project execution.
  • Ensure consistent use of checklists and core processes on job sites.
  • Design and implement process improvements that streamline field operations and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Ensure all field processes are clearly documented, accessible, and consistently followed to support operational consistency.
  • Lead training programs for field staff and continuously improve operational procedures.
  • Support vendor coordination by ensuring field teams are aligned with vendor schedules, expectations, and quality standards.
  • Champion the adoption of technology tools to improve scheduling, communication, and operational efficiency.
  • Customer Experience & Collaboration (~20%)

  • Lead major customer walkthroughs and check-ins, as appropriate.
  • Track customer feedback and proactively resolve issues to maintain a high level of satisfaction.
  • Act as the primary liaison between field and internal operations.
  • Establish clear, consistent communication practices between field and internal teams to ensure alignment and transparency.
  • Diagnose and resolve workflow bottlenecks between departments to enhance cross-functional collaboration.
  • Financial & Quality Oversight (~15%)

  • Monitor budget performance and take corrective action on cost overruns to maintain financial targets.
  • Manage warranty budgets and ensure timely response to issues.
  • Lead quality assurance efforts and introduce preventative measures to minimize recurring issues.
  • Create a feedback-driven environment where mistakes are addressed constructively and used as learning opportunities.
  • What You Need to Get the Job Done (Minimum Qualifications)

  • 5+ years of experience managing direct reports.
  • Residential construction experience preferred, but not requiredstrong desire to learn the business is essential.
  • Proven ability to influence through leadership rather than authority.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across teams and with customers.
  • Sound decision-making and situational assessment skills.
  • Proficiency in technology and scheduling tools; Microsoft Office experience preferred.
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on data and scheduling accuracy.
  • Willingness to work outside regular business hours as needed.

  • Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be expected to work outside in all types of weather conditions; conditions include occasional extreme heat exposure due to natural climate. The noise level in each work environment will vary and could sporadically be loud.
