Dual Language Immersion Coach-DLI (Spanish)

This position provides district support for the implementation of a dual language immersion program. The position will require knowledge of District procedures and policies and the ability to support teachers in the identification and implementation of high-leverage, research-based instructional strategies in order to improve the academic, language, and literacy skills of DLI Learners. This position assists with the sourcing of grade level appropriate Spanish language instructional resources for all content areas, translating and developing resources when they cannot be found.

Position provides job-embedded support for DLI teachers through planning, modeling, and co-teaching, conducting classroom visits, analyzing data, and offering collegial and actionable feedback. Position plans and conducts professional development based on assessed division and / or teacher needs. Position works in collaboration with the curriculum department to coordinate professional growth and development of teachers. In this capacity, this person assists teachers with scheduling, assessments, and leading a cluster group throughout the year.

Duties And Responsibilities

Provides support for Dual Language Immersion teachers, paraprofessionals and collaborates with their English partner colleagues.

Adapts instructional materials for Spanish language learners.

Coaches and supports Dual Language teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing quality language instruction.

Assesses the individual and collective needs Dual Language teachers.

Creates a comprehensive and systematic plan to support the professional growth of DLI teachers.

Models effective instructional techniques and strategies that engage learners.

Provides differentiated coaching support through co-planning, modeling, co-teaching, and observing to deliver timely and appropriate feedback.

Works collaboratively to help teachers analyze data and plan targeted and appropriate lessons.

Assists with writing exemplary lesson plans to serve as a model.

Provides support in the areas of classroom / group motivation and management to help teachers establish orderly learning environments.

Plans and conducts high quality professional development activities in response to assessed needs.

Keeps abreast of developments, research, and technology in the areas of instructional best practices in the DLI field.

Attends staff development programs, teacher coach and lead teacher meetings, and other professional development activities.

Performs any other related duties as assigned by the principal or appropriate administrator.

Key competencies include academic language proficiency in English and Spanish, knowledge of current standards, curriculum, and instructional practices in the elementary content areas, commitment to the goals of dual language; previous experience in a dual-language program preferred. Knowledge of methods and strategies for teaching academic content to second language learners preferred. Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students, including gifted students, students with disabilities, English language learners, and students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. A strong and positive attitude that all students can learn and have the capacity for academic excellence. Understand and apply knowledge about cultural norms, values, and beliefs in the context of teaching and learning. Ability to integrate technology into instruction. Remains current on research-based methods and strategies for working with culturally and linguistically diverse students.

Qualifications

A Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university; A valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate; Must meet Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or a willingness to meet the requirements within the designated timeframe. Biliterate in English and Spanish, able to demonstrate proficiency on language examinations as required.
