What You Will Do

We are seeking to hire a Safety Field Technician for our Southeast Region. Ideally you would need to live in one of the following provinces : British Columbia or Alberta . As a Safety Field Technician working for GSI, there is no typical day. You will not be working from behind a desk. You will be in the field, partnering with our Frontline Crews to drive GSI workplace safety culture and achieve our goal of zero injuries. For GSI, safety comes before anything else. Responsibilities

How You Will Make a Difference

Work with Regional Project Managers to implement Site Specific Health and Safety Plans

Assists with coordinating all safety training throughout the designated region based on identified exposure and needs.

  • Supports and promotes general safety policies and procedures to be followed by company personnel in compliance with Provincial (Act, Code, Regulation) Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
  • Inspects or tours job sites to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and reports to the Safety Manager / Safety Director and Superintendents recommendations on corrective or preventative measures where indicated.
  • Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries compiling information in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, law suits, and insurance investigations.
  • Helps compile and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Work with the People and Talent department with providing support to the frontline crew throughout investigations, critical concerns, statements and compliance needs and issues.
  • Working with contractors, subcontractors and clients to establish relationships while maintaining a mutual understanding of jobsite requirements and enforcing jobsite expectation per GSI standards.
  • Maintain a knowledge of company's policies, procedures and culture in forcing and supporting them to all co-workers.
  • Safety Technician must comply and adhere to the set standards of the Safety Technician Skills Matrix

Qualifications

What You Need to Bring

  • Maintain current Certificate of Recognition (COR) from various provinces, in addition to having or obtaining Internal COR auditor certification through ACSA.
  • In depth knowledge of WHS / MSHA / FRA / GSI Standards.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Must hold a valid Driver’s License.
  • Previous experience in safety program management
  • Previous experience or education in creating safety programs including policies, procedures, and training.
  • Industrial hygiene experiences a plus.
  • Ability to travel extensively for work
